Opeth - I still hold by my view that this is the closest we'll ever get to Pink Floyd in metal
Gojira - this, on the other hand, to quote Dave Ling, ex-metal maven of No.1 magazine - "this is a galloping horse, and they shoot horses, don't they?", which is to say the alt-metal/metalcore stylings pummel me into submission - i fail to see though the prog elements, except for the New Wave thing here and there. Just for twisting my hormones into, well, a twist, i'm giving this to Gojira Gojira - 2 Opeth - 0 |

The Gojira album carries on the Gojira trend of proggy extreme metal (death, thrash and groove) sounds and builds off The Mars to Sirius album (which is their best album) the problem is though, is that The Way of all Flesh isn't as tight as its predecessor and has several weak points despite being a good album, whereas Opeth's Blackwater Park is probably the finest example of what it has set out to do.
Opeth -2 Gojira-2

Now I don't like that album at all, but if you want to put your list here, I'd love to see it.

I list of every album that I ever listen to and give it a mark out of ten and often a one or two line comment (I know that sounds geeky, but I'd never remember everything I listen to otherwise) this list is something like 6 or 7 years old and its gigantic!!! For that album I've got a 6/10 with the description of its solid but uninteresting and sounds a bit like a Meshuggah album (thats not running down Meshuggah here, but I don't think Gojira were born to be robotic) Now that description is several years old when I last heard it, but I do remember I was comparing it to the debut which was a great album a real diverse listen and felt The Link a let down.
Saw you changed your post, but kept mine.

Sorry about making you type that, lol.
My aforementioned list would include some stuff like Omnivium, Black Future, Forseeing the Paranormal Abysm, Two Hunters, Deathhammer, and so on. Those are off the top of my head, I would need time to compile one. Blackwater Park would place, probably. While I'm not fond of it, it's regarded as a masterpiece. |
