I'm more of a bm guy and that’s probably why I hold albums like “Frost” in such high regards, it’s probably even in my top 20-30 metal albums of all time. There’s not much that beats bm classics like Frost, Det Some Engang Var, Pure Holocaust etc. So no, neither Vertebrae or Blackwater Park hold a candle to it as it’s way more my style than anything quite so proggy.
As already said, I have the same problem that many do with BP, the ideas just don’t seem to go together to form a cohesive whole, the songs could be shorter and less drawn out and the “angelic” clean vocals annoy me to no end. BP just seems more forced to me and as mentioned before I think the post-rock/metal influences suit “Vertebrae” very well even if it does make the album more ‘lightweight’. |
Opeth for sure, I listen to that album a lot and that Enslaved album didn't impress me much.

I wasn't voting based on a discography, Vertebrae is amazing. The psychedelia and post-rock hints all thrown together in a black metal shell, it's quite delicious.

Holy balls, they're playing with Ghost.

Opeth - there's a lot of diversity here, the playing is intricate, and it is one of the few things prog-metal has actually surprised, last was when I heard Tool's 10,000 Days
Enslaved - whilst enjoyable, it doesn't offer the plethora of emotions and palette of tonal colours Opeth can Opeth - 5 Enslaved - 2 |
Opeth finally end Enslaved's impressive run 5-2. Next up they face the highly rated Gojira in the final face-off. Gojira again need little introduction on this forum and over the last decade, they have been one of the more impressive metal bands in the fusing of diverse extreme metal styles.

Opeth - 0 Even though that's my least favorite Gojira album, it holds my attention better. They do the proggy dm thing the way I like it. |
