Ok I'm calling time on this as it looks like no more votes are coming in, so Enslaved claim a big scalp in Meshuggah 5-4. Next up comes one of the biggest progressive metal albums of the 00's, if you hadn't heard it yet, you've probably been hidden away under a rock for the last decade
Enslaved Vertebrae 2008
Versus Opeth Blackwater Park 2001

Around the time Blackwater Park came out I was just starting to get tired of Opeth, while for the few years previous I had thought they were amazing. I don’t know why but I just can not seem to genuinely enjoy anything of theirs anymore.
“Vertebrae” is no “Frost” or anything but it was a comfortable, natural progression for Enslaved and was a definite improvement on “Ruun”. I actually enjoyed the post-rockish elements here and I’m not usually a big fan of this type of thing. 2-0 Enslaved. |

Infidel. Those are the sort of words that can lead to a man finding himself drawn and quartered...

Opeth - 1
Enslaved - 2 Seriously? I mean come on. Blackwater Park is perhaps the best metal record I've ever heard. I once read that Akerfeldt "sings like an angel, growls like a demon, and plays guitar like a madman"... more true here than anywhere else |
