Sorry for so many posts in such a short time, but as I read through I find more and more to flap my jaw about!
I think the problem Demon had was similar to what they said in the Simpsons: Too crazy for Boystown, too much of a boy for Crazytown! Their name obviously piqued the interest of the crowd who followed the likes of Venom, Mercyful Fate and other "black metal" bands, and when they found out this band was "'ere, a bit melodic, huh?" they lost interest. On the other side of the coin, those who didn't like the Venom-led clutch of bands with Satanist connections steered clear of them. So sadly it was a real lose/lose scenario for them, and as you say, yes, they were definitely more "mainstream" metal than black. My brother got the album "The uninvited guest" and said it was great, but at the time I couldn't get past the name and wouldn't listen. Later, I did, but by then my tastes had more or less moved on. Yeah, me again!
These two albums were my biggest and most influential introduction to many bands of the NWOBHM era that I didn't already know of, including Trespass, White Spirit, Dark Star, Fist and Xero, with an early track from Diamond Head on the latter.

Based on what I know of your metal tastes, Demon would be right up your street, they had far more in common with bands like Thin Lizzy and UFO than they ever did with Sabbath or Priest. BTW its great to see that you have finally left the shelter of your journal and ventured out into the rest of the forum, your musical knowledge will greatly be appreciated on the rest of the forum.

Regarding this New Wave of British Heavy Metal...can someone tell me if there was an older, or oldish, wave of British Heavy Metal? |

In fact my journal is currently focusing on this time period of the early 1970s at the moment. Just click the link at the bottom of this post "Pounding Decibels"
