That song is pretty epic. The vocals aren't too great, but they're buried in the mix anyway, so it doesn't really matter, since the main riff's immense awesomeness is right in your face and impossible to ignore.

I've also read Metallica were into these guys, which given their love for Diamond Head is no surprise really. Metallica covered a Holocaust song on their Garage Days Re-Revisted EP.

Holocaust are solid; they're referenced directly in the song "Heavy Metal Hunter pt.1" by Metalucifer.

Off of the Nightcomers, my favorite track is "Heavy Metal Mania":

The opening melody is pretty epic.... anyways, this song was covered by that godawful band Gamma Ray, and they - as one would expect - ****ed it up.

That's also a great track, Gamma Ray are actually a very good band but I know you don't like power metal so that would explain that. I can't speak of the Gamma Ray cover as I don't recall it.

The Saxon legend is built around the three albums they released in just a two year period Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather. The rest are really take 'em or leave 'em.

US told me about this thread but I've only just now got to start reading it.
As he knows, but for those who don't, I've been running an in-depth review of the NWOBHM, concentrating on both the prime movers (with the exception of Maiden) and the "little guys".

Part one, which is here http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ml#post1107941 deals with Praying Mantis, Angel Witch and Trespass, while part two, here http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ml#post1132041 features Raven, Cloven Hoof and Venom.

Part three will follow soon(ish) and will look at Tank, Wolf and Saxon.

The only music mag I ever read (or needed) was Kerrang! Learned everything I needed to know about heavy metal there. Thanks guys!
