I haven't listened to Cold Lake, but I would agree that To Mega Therion is overrated. It just seems like a stepping stone to Into the Pandemonium for me. Still a sweet album though.

I was surprised by how much support Sepultura got. Really, really surprised. I was not expecting that at all.

Cold Lake is more glam-metal

Here's the band photo included in their Cold Lake album.
Definitely .. extreme.
I've always kinda wondered about the ratio of fans gained to fans lost when the album dropped.

Off topic: Is it just me, or with this, the Metal Wars thread, and the NWOBHM thread, is the metal community on this site becoming more active than it's been since I've been on here?

I`ve been on here since 2009 and I would say yes this is the best its been since I`ve been on here, obviously I don`t know what it was like before I joined. Like most things, it only takes one or two people to come up with a couple of interesting threads and most importantly to maintain the interest in these threads by updating them.

I`d actually write loads of threads about other genres as well, but a lot of the stuff I`m also into doesn`t get that much interest on the forum to make it worthwhile, whereas metal on the other hand is extremely viable especially metal at the heavier end of the spectrum.

Cool. I'll have to do my part to keep this going then.

I wouldn't have thought it would have made much of a difference.
Yes it probably alienated most or if not all of their hardcore following but it was also their first album that had any real mainstream rock exposure on things like MTV. I would have thought all that exposure would have cancelled out most of the loss of their original fanbase.

It was the first Celtic Frost album I ever bought.
