I love Queen to death, but the middle opera section, while beyond amazing, interrupts a killer rock song IMO.
Yes, some of the stairway lyrics are hippy dippy but it was written in 1970 when the hippy thing was still pretty prominent. Read from many sources that about 75% of the lyrics were written spur of the moment by Plant, sitting in front of a fireplace, while Page and Bonham were working out the song down the hall. Again both amazing songs, but what puts Stairway ahead for me is the brilliant use of tempo and dynamics. It starts with a slow whisper and then, before the coda, is exploding at a breakneck pace. Page's solo and Bonham's drumming for the win. Saw Queen do Bohemian at the Boston Garden in 1977 (MIND BLOWING) if anyone is interesting with some killer details.

I voted Bohemian Rhapsody. I think Stairway To Heaven is great but it was a bit overplayed in the Seventies. Of course, it didn't help Bohemian Rhapsody that it became the national anthem on Wayne's World. Still I have to lean towards Queen.

BR was my favorite song in 5th grade, but then Wayne and his little bitch friend ruined it for me years later. Stairway? Ugh... please no (like the sign says). If I'm in the right mood, I might (and that's a really big might) FF to the solo and play along, but the song has just been so over-played (not that BR hasn't) it hurts to listen to, and my LZ phase was over a couple of decades ago. If I had the choice of only 1 of the 2 songs to listen to for the rest of my life, I'd go with BR.
