I don't know the band, but if they ARE Christians, perhaps the lyrics are insinuating that the Jesus that they have been taught isn't good enough, and they're looking for something deeper? Or maybe they're speaking from another character's perspective in the song? I know I've done that when writing.

Or maybe they really just don't care and are writing whatever they want.

Having listened exclusively to Christian music up until about three years ago, I have a rather dim view on it right now. There are a handful of Christian bands that I like (Thousand Foot Krutch, Relient K, Switchfoot, Underoath, and Eleventyseven), but most I can't stand. I feel like people who listen to Christian music exclusively, because it's "uplifting" are stupid, especially when you consider the biggest Christian band right now, Skillet's, biggest single repeats the chorus, "I, I feel like a monster." While I understand the point of the lyrics from a christian prospective, that's not very uplifting. I'm opening up to more christian music lately, because for a while there I couldn't stand any of it other than the aforementioned bands. I feel like "Contemporary Christian", which is a real genre, is the worst genre available right now, as it basically all sounds the same, in my opinion.

This. This right here.

It's like an entire genre filled with people saying, "How can we offend the least amount of people possible? Oh, by making the single most generic, boring, NICE music we can!"

And the cash flows in.

It's like, SERIOUSLY people! You are taking everything I stand for and making it into the worst music in the world! ARGH

The problem with Christian music in general is that they usually try to pass off fighting for the statuesque as something rebellious. They need to stop trying to just imitate what secular music is doing and just create their own thing.

Then again this is a problem with American Christian Youth culture as a whole so I don't know how long it will take to correct itself.

yeah,,, i thought the goal was to offend the least amount of people as possible.... and then i heard this:

wow guys, can you be any more... idiotic here..... I always thought the meaning of Christian is one who was Christ like.... I think even he would hear this and go... not cool guys, not cool...

for those not familiar with this band, they are a Christian parody band, they take popular non-christian songs and parody them to by adding Christian lyrics and themes... sometimes it is just whatever, and in cases like this is just.... well, whatever happened to judge not lest ye be judged.

they have other stupid songs as well like this one..

I doubt they actually ask for permission to do these from the artists, like Weird Al does.... because you do not have to have permission to record a parody... but Al does anyways just to make sure he doesnt step on toes, and to make sure the are alright with it..

But yeah, I doubt these guys got permission from Courtney Love to do so... cause i think she would of told them to f*ck off.

If you're into pop-rock then Nevertheless is a pretty good Christian band I stumbled upon. Their lyrics don't really show it., I only found out after reading comments. I recommend the songs 'Topics', and 'Oh love'

But why should they try to do their own thing when being one step behind secular music is working for them? Don't get me wrong, I think it's stupid that almost all of the mainstream christian bands available can be easily comparable to other secular bands that, more often than not, write better stuff. I feel like Christians who listen exclusively to christian music are, as I mentioned earlier, being willfully ignorant. I know a small handful of people who are musicians in some kind of "rock instrument" who also refuse to listen to anything but christian music, and I think it's absolutely hilarious that they think they'll accomplish much of anything. I've yet to encounter any christian band that has a lot of technical skill on any instrument. Occasionally something will come up where a particular instrument will impress me, but it's never anything close to Peart or Hendrix, and I simply don't understand how someone can be super motivated to play an instrument without those legends as motivators.

because secular music is mostly "Satanic"?

that's what a hardline Christian colleague seems to think

whereas the stuff she listens to doesn't even display one/tenth of the innovation of even someone like Kenny G

If by working you mean being successful within a subculture while being ridiculed by the mainstream then I agree with you.

When I think successful I think being taken as serious musicians and not as copy cats of successful secular musicians from yesteryear.

What I would suggest you do is just download an instrumental of a really good song by a talented secular band and show it to them.

Hopefully they will learn from it instead of either brushing it off or plagiarizing it.
