I am far from a Christian, in fact I am a pretty devout Atheist (but I won't start that debate and turn this into another anti-religious thing, I hope nobody else does either).. but I lived next door to a minister one summer, and he gave me free tickets to YC festival that was here, and these guys played it:
I remember going just cause... well I had nothing better to do for that weekend.. sadly. All these Christians would come up to me and ask me about my love of Jesus, and I would just say "oh yeah.... love that Jesus! Go Jesus!". Later that night I got the old whipped cream while sleeping gag. I kept a copy of Deicide's "Once Upon the Cross" on me.... you know, cause when I was 14 I thought that made me evil or some crap like that. But yeah, I actually like that song from Jars of Clay, as well as a few others they played, they did this song called "Black Coffee" which I thought was kinda cool. I do not like most of the album, because well... just not my thing, but that song I still listen to every now and then. I think it was the first case here of a song by a Christian Band that was a hit on rock radio, not to common for a Christian band to get a top 40 hit on the non christian charts... and as far as I know U2 is the only non-christian band to have a hit record on Christian charts with "The Joshua Tree".

I hate that people think Switchfoot are good. If you want good music with christian members go to: The Chariot, As I Lay Dying and actually, that's all I like anymore. There used to be others, but I got over metalcore on the most part.

Zao and Living Sacrifice had some alright stuff at one time. Probably wouldnt feel the same now, but used to be into them.
A few Death Metal bands too I still listen to from time to time... Opprobrium (formerly Incubus, til they changed their name cause of band from California), Crimson Thorn and Mortification, "Scrolls of the Megilloth" is a great album. But that is about the extent of it for me.

Christian music hasn't been good since the 1700s. Albeit, being a staunch atheist I do have a soft spot for the hymnal, and choral music:
/\ Gorgeous stuff. However... I don't think Rock or Metal was made well for 'spreading the word'. That's what I hate about all Christian Rock(which is terrible). The thing is, melodies are part of the 'message' of a song. You can't just slap 'praise the lord' onto Thrash guitar riffs, and expect it to come off as Christian music, or anything but unnecessarily hokey. Good rock, and metal are far to abrasive for that kind of thing.

I love that kinda stuff and not at all for the religious aspect of it. Ancient worship music can be very beautiful, mysterious and haunting because of the generations worth of history and connotation attached to it. Contemporary worship is lacking that as it's practically the same as other genres with positive lyrics. Hell, even old school gospel is pretty good music. I enjoy it because it's a genre all it's own, and it also reminds me of past decades, which is interesting.

Well, christian metal, technically, but this is the closest thing to christian rock that I like. I'm not a fan of Christianity, however.
