When it comes to metal, black metal is kind of like the final frontier for me and I`m now starting to listen to a lot more black metal at the moment. Would be great if some of you guys listed YOUR 5 ESSENTIAL BLACK METAL ALBUMS so I can be sure to check them out.

Unfortunately I'm not knowledgable enough to make a comp like that that would be worth anything. But just for starters...

Burzum - Filosofem
Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane (This should be required listening for anyone just getting into black metal. It, like, has actual, like, songs. Go figure.)
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Bathory - Blood, Fire, Death

Hahaha I`m guessing you don`t know much more black metal than me as I know 4 of those albums. I only need to check out the Dissection album.

The best black metal albums I know so far are:
Bathory-Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Bathory-Blood, Fire, Death
Burzum-Filosofem
Burzum-Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Darkthrone-Under a Funeral Moon

The best of all is that Blut Aus Nord album.

When I listen to new music, I tend to listen to just about anything I can find once and then move onto the next thing. So, my knowledge of black metal is sorta based on a lot of one time listens. Bathory, Blut Aus Nord, Dissection, and Burzum are just some of the few that I've taken the time to delve more deeply into.

BTW, why are there so many black metal bands whose name starts with a "B"?

Because B means Beelzebub and he likes to holiday in hell or so I have heard.

Because it's the first letter in "black"? And "brootal"?
