I dunno about all that. Power metal is known for incredibly polished recordings I'd say. Pretty much two of those mainly deal with harsh vocals. Gothic metal ain't fast.

Nah. Just clearly define what makes it BLACK. And how BLACK differentiates itself from any of the other 7,000 metal genres.

Nah, if the band used someone else's vocals and got a different band behind him, they could definitely be on the same album.

So today's extreme metal bands choose a niche, pitch their tents, and then make sure every one of their songs will fit within the genre recipe?
