Kreator

What's your opinion? What's your favorite album by them?

Pleasure to Kill is my favorite. It's just so fast, loud, and brutal. I love it.

Without doubt the best European thrash metal band (unless I`ve forgotten somebody else). Their sound ranks up there, with the other classic thrash acts and their incoporation of groove, industrial and gothic metal was a success as well.

Their three best albums:
Coma of Souls
Cause for Conflict
Outcast

U forgot Coroner ;) Awesome band. For me though Extreme Aggression is a huge fave and I also saw them on that tour so I am biased.

Great band, although I wouldnt put them as the best European thrash band. I'd not even have them as number 1 in Germany (that honour goes to Sodom for me). I dont particularly like their experimental albums in the middle of their career, the move away from the more aggressive thrash sound that they were famous for was a bad idea.

And I also voted for Pleasure To Kill

I never really got into thrash outside of Slayer and a handfull of other bands. I recognize their importance, understand the music, but it just never captivated me. The only album I have by them is "Pleasure to Kill", but most everyone says that's the album to get.

I haven't listened to Kreator for a long time but I remember thinking that they were the one European band that rivaled American thrash in spirit at least (I'm not an expert). Powerful band. I also remember really liking their Extreme Aggression album.

No way Sodom is better than Kreator. Even Frank Blackfire thought so when he defected to join Kreator and helped make their best record "Coma of Souls." Sodom's a great band, but I'd place Destruction's delightfully uber-raw unpolished thrash as the number two band.

Technically, they're from Switzerland so they may have a little mixed blood, hahaha. They did possess a great shredder, possibly the best of all Euro thrash bands.

I just said that. Spambot technology is so sophisticated these days.

King_Matt 05-07-2011 09:42 PM

I'd say they're the best German band, but best European band is a little too...much.

BastardofYoung 05-08-2011 11:49 AM

Pleasure to Kill would get my vote, one of the best thrash albums of all-time.

But for German thrash, I tend to prefer Sodom and Destruction.

Hahaha a couple of years ago, I listened to this one Kreator album every time I had a chance. My mom said that it was Satanist and haaateeeddd it. I couldn't say what album it was, it was burned for me by a friend of mine. Maybe if I listened to a couple, I'd be able to tell.

Mojo 05-08-2011 12:29 PM

I've offered to send you some Kreator before. Keep up. :)

Arya Stark 05-08-2011 12:58 PM

Did you? Haha. But this was before I knew you!
I was hardcore already.
Get like me.

I have been on a huge Kreator kick recently.

When I was growing up I hated Kreator and other European bands like Sodom and Destruction but over the last couple of years I have come to really appreciate them.

Their sound was so different from the American Thrash of the time and initially it sounded amateurish and poorly produced but this has actually benefited these bands in the long run. They still sound raw and retain a Punk/Hardcore aesthetic that many other bands dropped in favour of better production and more complex arrangements, which is understandable but years later it has aged those bands a lot more than many of their American counterparts.

Once you get past the low value production of (early) Kreator you can hear a band that smashed it completely and they are still going and making some damn fine records - Enemy Of God for example:

i just bought "Hordes of Chaos" and to say that this lit a fire up my ass is an understatement

will probably be getting the rest of their discog, and this is so even if the album I got is hardly one of their best (or as I've been told)

metalheadmike 03-20-2012 12:28 PM

Always been a fan of Kreator. I voted for Extreme Aggression. It was the first I ever owned by the band

Travis_Bickle 03-20-2012 12:55 PM

I absolutely worship their first four albums, then to a lesser extent Coma of Souls.
I guess I’ll be the first to cast a vote for Endless Pain, it’s just so primitive, vicious and violent and yes, in a lot of ways I actually find it more memorable than the also great PTK. I also love Ventor’s vocals.
