metal bands doing acoustic instrumentals
It always seems like heavier bands (not sure all the ones I'm about to mention are considered "metal" but I don't put too much focus on genre arguments anyway) have the best acoustic instrumentals. I've found that they are usually the songs that relax me most, but I have so few of them to actually listen to.
Some of my favorite instrumentals include: "Subtleties" by My Bitter End (this is probably one of my favorite songs actually) "Fifteen Fathoms Counting" by Bring Me The Horizon (the most listened to song on my iPod) "I Am Yours" by Texas In July "Acoustic Melody" and "Timeless" by In Flames "The Mind's Eye" Dark Tranquility "Crystal Ann" by Annihilator Any suggestions of more are welcome!!! |
Ulver has some interesting results in this category.

Well, if you insist on the acoustic nature of these instrumentals, I recommend you check out Drudkh. "Songs of Grief and Solitude" could be accuratelly described as ambient music played with folk instruments. Good stuff.
Also, if you're willing to go beyond a fetish for the guitar, there are a lot of released by metal bands (or musicians) who have released ambeint electronic works. Fenriz of Darkthrone has releases in this vein, as does Burzum, Beherit, Ildjarn-Nidhogg, Mortiis, etc.... |
Metallica has a good bit of songs that are acoustic, like Fade to Black, Nothing Else Matters, and alot more

i liked the cover of Tuesday's gone that metallica did
|
Metallica:yeah::yeah::yeah:

Check out Pouring Reign by As Blood Runs Black, probably my favorite acoustic song to play
|
Another good one is Sotto Voce by The Human Abstract
|
Jasco or Itsari by Sepultura

In Flames has a lot of songs with acoustics in them but very few that are strictly acoustic. My personal favorites are "The Jester's Dance" and "Moonshield". Also "Circle" by Slipknot, and "Cold Inside" by Hurt are pretty good.
None of these are instrumentals (except "The Jester's Dance") but all contain lots of relaxing acoustics. |
Embryo by Black Sabbath is good, even if it's only 30 seconds long. Also, I may be berated for saying this, and it may not be metal to yous guys (which is why i list it as Metal? on my itunes), but i like Snuff by Slipknot a lot. :<

I have say these are the kinds of songs I usually skip over on metal albums.

Great acoustic song with some really nice instrumental passages, although the whole tune isn't instrumental. The part that starts at about 1:05 is probably one of my favorite acoustic parts of all time. This one is a real panty-dropper, if that's what you're looking for. But seriously, why else do people learn acoustic songs, right? |
oh and I totally forgot about "Pallar Anders Visa" from the In Flames album Colony
|
Oh, and Elephant Man and Joseph Merrick by Mastodon, along with Pendulous Skin if it counts (it has acoustic guitar and junk, but also synthesizers/organs).
|
^ Dude, I love your avatar, where is that from?
This is the only one I can think of off the top of my head One of favorites... Most of them are some type of interlude or like Embryo, short and sweet. |
