Discordance Axis I'm sure quite a few people on here already know these guys but they're new to me so I thought I'd post them here. Discordance Axis was a grindcore trio from New Jersey that broke up in 2001. Like Pig Destroyer they had no bassist, but guitarist Rob Marton was able to create such a powerful wall of sound that they didn't even really need one. His style is somewhat unique in grindcore with elements to it that I think can best be described as really loud indie rock. The vocalist, Jon Chang, has also received a lot of attention for his lyrics because they tend to involve themes related to anime and science-fiction, unusual for a grindcore band. Though I don't personally find his lyrics all that impressive I do appreciate the fact that he was willing to try something different. Some samples: |

GridLink As a kind of follow up to my last post, I figure I should mention GridLink, which is the current band of former Discordance Axis vocalist Jon Chang. I have to thank Hank the Drifter for turning me on to these guys, they're really amazing. Like Discordance Axis they're grindcore but their style is very different: more metal-ish and much more technical. This is one incredibly tight band and I'm consistently blown away by how precisely in sync their lighting fast playing is. Great stuff. Their only album, at twelve minutes long, certainly leaves you wanting more, but I'd be willing to bet just as much happens in that twelve minutes as happens in an hour on a lot of other albums. Wow. Yeah, that's the stuff. I remember Discordance Axis from when I devoured anything Hydra Head released but I probably haven't heard / don't remember their best stuff.
I hadn't listened to Gridlink before. Not sure why. When I first turned on the song you posted I immediately thought I liked DA a lot better but halfway into the song I was thinking it was maybe even better. Damn good shit.

And how awesome is it that one of the audience members in that photo is wearing a crash helmet? |

So I wasn't really sure whether to post these two bands here, since they're not really 'metallic', more in the vein of harsh noise/power electronics, but with a hardcore edge. They're certainly spastic and loud, noisy?...more like noise, intense is an understatement. I thought they might interest you if you haven't heard them.
Wolf Eyes I've heard only one album, um...that's enough for now : Burned Mind from 2004. Live: not that good sound, but it's a nice visual illustration Hair Police Another similar band. I've heard Obedience Cuts (2004) Live: again, not much can be heard musically, this is more for the intense atmosphere

This kinda of music is all about one-upsmanship. It's entertaining to hear who can take it to the next level. Celphalic Carnage has quickly become one of my favorite bands, playing many types of my favorite music, often within the span on 60 sec.
