I vote yes on this. Have you listened to it and decided to buy it, or are you of the extincting breed that buys an album without listening to it first?

I buy most of my albums without listening first(all the albums I've ever loved have been from me doing that), but sometimes I'll listen to a few songs on Youtube or something before I buy, but I never listen to the whole thing. I love the element of suprise when you listen to an album for the first time, not knowing what to expect.

In this particular case I'm going to listen without buying, because this band sounds like something I could really get into.

Very few people do what you`re doing, but it can be very rewarding doing this. I think if you buy "Blood Mountain" it`ll be a great buy and listen. But that of course is dependent on the type of sound you`re expecting to hear.

That's so refreshing to hear. I used to have funds to do that every so often. It's sad some of the things you've got to cut out of your life when **** gets hectic. I can settle for eagerly waiting for an album to download, new releases or the random button. It's not the same though, that's why I try to hit the record store from time to time. Man, I've found some gems buying without listening. Because of that, I will always trust my gut!

Also, you will most likely not be disappointed with Blood Mountain. Not because its my favorite Mastodon album, but because it fucking delivers! Have you a favorite Mastodon thus far or will this be your intro?

Blood Mountain is my favorite Mastodon album too, it's a perfect balance between the heaviness of the first two and the uplifting, psychedelic sound of Crack The Skye.

The worst thing about Blood Mountain is Brent Hinds's singing. I have all of their CDs that come with a DVD showing the making of the albums and whatnot. On the Blood Mountain DVD you can witness the horror of Hinds' vocals as they show him recording them in a booth by himself and you can hear them naked and exposed in all their talentless off-key pseudo-melodic glory.

I do think Hinds is a fairly brilliant guitarist and he seems like a very cool person but, my god, I wish they would keep him away from the mic. The studio mostly took care of the problem on CtS but it really taints my opinion of Blood Mountain.

Brent always comes off as a bit self-important to me, and Troy (and Brann for that matter) are both far more talented vocalists. I wish they'd stick Brann on a few more tracks, he's got a fine voice as shown on Oblivion. Brent should stick to screaming.
