Dokken are my favorite hair metal band by far. At least their cheesy nature gives it some novelty value.
Yes, they are the epitome of 80's cliche.

I'm the one to blame for all the grunge discussion!
Nevermind is a great album and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is a great song...

I wonder if Angel were one of the very first of this kind. Brought to the attention of Casablanca Records through Gene Simmons, they had a very cheesy style in contrast to Kiss (who were already going into their time when they had a major effect for later Hair Metal after their early days in my opinion), had Synth fills thanks to one Greg Guiffria (Later a hit maker/one hit wonder on his own), and a very elaborate stage presentation which was almost brought to the screen and home video. They were not too sleazy by 80's standards, but they still had the fliar for the visual and the occasional high notes.
Just bought Red Hot used...50 cents with Earth Force ad. |

I don't like Poison, GNR, or, Soundgarden but of these three I choose Poison because they don't pretend to be anything they aren't. GNR are Soundgarden are both mostly boring and worse still, pretentious. Poison, stupid as it may have been, and pathetically unable to to even fill a greatest hits collection with decent pop songs after all these years, still at least they offered a fun spectacle. Cinderalla, Ratt, and, Motley Crue offered more musically but not really by that much.
If you put together a best of all these bands minus Soundgarden you might having something worth enjoying. |
