Really?

Dokken are my favorite hair metal band by far. At least their cheesy nature gives it some novelty value.

Yes, they are the epitome of 80's cliche.

Scorpions in the 1970's and upto to the mid 1980`s were without doubt one of the best metal acts of all time. Singer Klaus Meine`s voice was always something very special.

Scorpions (70`s to mid 80`s) > Guns N Roses >>>> Scorpions (post mid 80s) and Dokken >>>>>>>>>>>>> Ratt......are about as bad as it gets.

As far as impact goes Appetite is one of the most successful debut albums of all time and turned GnR from being just another LA bar band into being a household name in just over a year. No Soundgarden album can really compare on that level.
I think you`ve summed it up with Appetite, as with the first three songs "Welcome to the Jungle" "It`s so easy" and "Nightrain" basically blew away the rest of the hair metal competition.

I'm the one to blame for all the grunge discussion!

Nevermind is a great album and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is a great song...

I wonder if Angel were one of the very first of this kind. Brought to the attention of Casablanca Records through Gene Simmons, they had a very cheesy style in contrast to Kiss (who were already going into their time when they had a major effect for later Hair Metal after their early days in my opinion), had Synth fills thanks to one Greg Guiffria (Later a hit maker/one hit wonder on his own), and a very elaborate stage presentation which was almost brought to the screen and home video. They were not too sleazy by 80's standards, but they still had the fliar for the visual and the occasional high notes.

Just bought Red Hot used...50 cents with Earth Force ad.

No. Raven were about as bad as it got. I just recently survived their mauling of "Gimme Some Loving" on their album the Pack is Back, featuring titles like "Screamin' Down the House" and "Rock Dogs." "Don't Let It Die?" Sorry, no, they were already cut-out land regulars from album one onward.

Still, at least they made me laugh! Not bad for a used album find.

I don't like Poison, GNR, or, Soundgarden but of these three I choose Poison because they don't pretend to be anything they aren't. GNR are Soundgarden are both mostly boring and worse still, pretentious. Poison, stupid as it may have been, and pathetically unable to to even fill a greatest hits collection with decent pop songs after all these years, still at least they offered a fun spectacle. Cinderalla, Ratt, and, Motley Crue offered more musically but not really by that much.

If you put together a best of all these bands minus Soundgarden you might having something worth enjoying.

I would say the same is true of GnR. They reveled in being trashy.
