I've always considered Nitro the cheesiest of the glam bands, mainly because the singer sounds like ****ing Elmo. Most glam isn't half as cheesy as they were though. And even if alot of them did dress pretty silly, the music itself shouldn't be considered a joke, unless you're an antisocial hermit who hates party music, or a Slipknot/Nirvana/Korn/Linkin Park/Breaking Benjamin/etc. worshipping angsty teen.

^I hate party music outside of, Y'know... parties. And I only consider it a joke when people actually insist my music is dull because it isnt "fun" like theirs.
I have a question for glam fans....Beyond Bowie, I'm having a hard time finding any artistic merit in any mainstream glam acts (or even lesser known ones). Help with this? |

Yes it is.
The music itself is largely a joke though, and I'm saying this as someone who likes party music, is far from being a hermit and is definitely not an angsty teen. But many of the songs hair metal bands are most known for are ballads that are pretty far from being party music anyway. That fact of the matter is I personally enjoy hair metal for almost completely nostalgic reasons and I can totally understand why someone who didn't grow up in that era would just flat out think it sucks. |

I think it is pretty rubbish really but you know, sometimes I don't mind a bit of feel good rubbish. My musical tastes are pretty deep and meaningful in the main but sometimes I enjoy a bit of light hearted nonsense for fun.
I think it shouldn't ever be taken seriously like zeppelin or floyd should but some of it is feel good fun. Just my two cents worth. |

In general hair metal is pretty useless, but I still have respect for Motley Crue's first two albums, Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil. They sounded like they actually cared about their music and not just the drugs back then.

I'd say that a term like "classic rock" has to move with the times. To me music that was very popular and/or an influence on the music we listen to today has to be considered classic. An earlier poster mentioned Ratt, Cinderella and Motley Crue. To me I can still put that stuff on and enjoy a lot of things about it today. Of course what is classic to one may not be classic to another... Rod Stewarts "Maggie May" is played on the local classic rock station here all the time but is it classic to me?? NO WAY! But I can understand its place under the classic rock umbrella... even if I do want to somehow reach through the radio and choke out the DJ for making me listen to it!
