They thought they were like the next Led Zeppelin or something. At least that's how it seemed to me.

I guess I could see how you'd say that about some of the songs on the Use Your Illusion albums, but that's definitely not the case with Appetite.

If there was any band they aspired to be like it was definitely Aerosmith rather than Led Zep.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

That's fair. Good point. And they do make a better poor man's Aerosmith than a poor man's Zep.

They don't make a poor mans Aerosmith as well as Aerosmith have for the last 20 or so years.

Since when are these bands classic rock? In my opinion there just a step ahead of boy bands.....

And wtf is all the praise these bands get just for being old!
I'm not really a fan of either bands you've mentioned. But, I do know what your talking about. There are a lot of stubborn people on the internets that will simply only listen to music circa 1960 - 1990 (or any time period in between) who claim that the current popular bands out now are horrible and music from the mentioned periods or classic rock is the only good music. I used to be one of those kids when I was 13 and in all honesty I think it's just a phase.

This girl at work was telling me how great she thought Aerosmith are because of that fucking awful ballad they put out for that piece of shit asteroid movie.

I just wanted to tie her to a chair & blast Rats In the Cellar directly into her eardrums at full volume until she shit herself.

Curt Cobain specifically set out to make Nevermind simple. He wanted it to be like children's music. It was harsh music that was very accessible. If you want depth just for depth's sake, that just seems arbitrary.

And I love Zeppelin, but as deep Stairway to Heaven is, I'm sick and tired of it, but I've never gotten sick of Teen Spirit.
