kashmir is overrated

i have a hard time rating zeppelin songs as favorites because it's always changing

maskedsuperstae3 01-09-2011 12:32 PM

I give Zeppelin all the credit in the world but personally there's only about 15 songs I like by them(& I really like those tunes) but could care less about anything else by them

1 The Ocean
2 Communication Breakdown
3 Song Remains the Same
4 Celebration Day
5 Rock & Roll
6 You Shook Me
7 Whole lotta Love
8 Black Dog
9 Going to California
10 Heartbreaker
I really love Moby **** but I hate the drum solo.

JVB 01-11-2011 11:55 PM

Kashmir is my absolute favorite. otherwise
dazed and confused
immigrant song
babe i'm gonna leave you
heartbreaker
houses of the holy
song remains the same
communication breakdown
black dog
and off course stairway to heaven

snagglepuss 01-12-2011 09:43 PM

I had a really big Zeppelin phase when i was like 15, but I quickly got bored with them. But there are always songs I come back to. Like...

Tangerine
Ten Years Gone
The Ocean
Bron-yr Aur
Bring It On Home
Custard Pie
Boogie With Stu
Celebration Day
Friends
Achilles Last Stand

The Batlord 01-13-2011 03:05 PM

1. Communication Breakdown
2. All of My Love
3. Houses of the Holy
4. Black Dog
5. Kashmir
6. Misty Mountain Hop
7. The Ocean
8. Immigrant Song
9. Whole Lotta Love
10. No Quarter

I used to love Zeppelin, but these i find myself getting bored by a lot of classic rock. Just about the only classic rock band I still really give a **** about is Queen. Their music is just so timeless.

bonesaw-orchestra 01-14-2011 10:38 PM

from most favourite and so forth..
Tangerine
Down By the Seaside
D'yer Mak'er
Thank You
Kashmir
Stairway to Heaven (obviously..)
Good times, Bad times
The Ocean
Misty Mountain Hop
Bron-yr Aur

lol

I hate when they did that boogie woogie crap as well. Great list, but I prefer to pretend that stuff never happened. On the other hand, I totally disagree with Roy Harper and Black Country Woman- and Ramble On... That's gotta be in the top five best. I love LOVE LOVE that tune.

RVCA 01-15-2011 11:43 AM

Yeah, I can understand everything on that list except Ramble On...

I admit that I pretty soon encountered difficulties in selecting the worst after the first three at the bottom, and started thinking in terms of least good instead. "Ramble on" for example is not that bad but I don't think it contains a whole lot either and I've never been much into that song. And I remember the first time I listened to "Presence" how disappointed I was (well past the first track of course), but even that one has a certain groove to it.

A top ten list of their best would be too hard for me to accomplish as they after all is one of my favourite bands of all time. "Achilles" would top the list though.

Perhaps you could have dug deeper into Coda. Plus, there's some of that old timey sounding crap on How the West Was Won that just annoys the hell out of me and then there's D'yer Mak'er.

RVCA 01-15-2011 10:43 PM

Worst Zeppelin Song: The Crunge

makes me want to gouge my ears

Dotoar 01-16-2011 12:43 PM

I've had my share of digging deep into Zeppelin's catalogue, after all they are one of my all-time favourites although I hardly ever listen to them anymore. I think that at least half of "Coda" is very worthy, bar those tracks I listed here. I think for example that "Bonzo's Montreaux" is actually a much more groovy listen than "Moby D i c k" and tracks like "Ozone baby" and "Poor Tom" could have fitted well onto the regular albums. And as for "The crunge" and "D'yer mak'er", well they aren't exactly masterpieces but I think they're a whole lotta fun.

Dotoar 01-16-2011 12:52 PM

Alright, I'll give the topic a try then:

10. Immigrant song
9. When the levee breaks
8. The rover
7. That's the way
6. Black dog
5. Over the hills and far away
4. No quarter
3. Dazed and confused
2. Since I've been loving you
1. Achilles last stand

Solid list. I'm liking the exclusion of StH, not cause it's a bad song but the fact that it's severely overrated. On a separate note, I've been thinking of adding When the Levee breaks to my top 10, recently

RVCA 01-18-2011 03:08 PM

I'd just like to point out that When the Levee Breaks and Dazed/Confused are covers

Kyle Equals Bored 01-18-2011 03:21 PM

So is Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, but Zepp made all these examples better than the originals if you ask me

RVCA 01-19-2011 02:26 AM

Yeah but I'm reluctant to put songs they didn't actually compose on a list of their best songs...

someonecompletelyrandom 01-19-2011 02:47 AM

Eh... when a song is completely reworked I personally don't see the harm in it. Hurt is definitely in my Cash top 10 and it's a cover.

OccultHawk 01-19-2011 04:45 AM

I like Kermit's version.
