Rock albums: most solid set of opening songs ever?
Generally speaking, the greatest records in the rock canon tend to be front-loaded - not necessarily because the rest of the album is weak, but because the opening 4, 5 or 6 songs are near perfect. The question is, what record/s have the strongest sets of album openers?
One that immediately springs to mind for me is Nevermind. The first 6 songs are such damn great tracks that you marvel at how Cobain managed to write them all in that short time. Discuss! |

Not a very notable album by any means, but the first four songs on Propagandhi's "Supporting Caste" are nothing short of amazing. It's a pity the rest of the album isn't near as good.

Agree with that to a degree and that is certainly the case on "Piece of Mind" and "Powerslave" but these albums like most of Iron Maiden`s classic era material, do finish off with some of their best songs. The weakest part of a lot of Maiden albums is probably the middle. |
