Default It's Alternative Rock week!

Alternative Rock has of course meant a number of things over the years. In the 1980's it would be used to define a number of artists who offered an alternative to the commercial charts and would make good use of things like college radio and independent record labels to promote their music.

Today the term Alternative Rock is probably most widely used as an umbrella term for rock music that does not typically follow current trends or mainstream culture, regardless of the level of commercial success and rather than to describe a specific sound.

when i think of "Alternative" i definatly think of "MTVs 120 Minutes" and the 90s....for me at least....my favorites of that time

Teenage Fanclub - The Concept...this entire album is a gem

The Ocean Blue - Ballerina Out Of Control...still amazing song

Urge Overkill - Sister Havana.....crazy they are so underrated

Camper Van Beethoven - Take The Skinheads Bowling...."i had a dream i wanted to lick you knees"

They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng....such found memories with this song and album (seriously this song is amazing)

Jane's Addiction...i always enjoyed Nothings Shocking to the other two albums

'Alternative' is a pretty broad term as it can cover a wide range of music. But here's a few tracks that come to mind

I can already see that this week will make me go back to bands I haven't listened in a long time.

Meat Puppets - 'Two Rivers' (Up on the Sun, 1985) One of my favorite Meat Puppets songs

Violent Femmes - 'Kiss Off' Ah, nostalgia

Afghan Whigs - 'Retarded' (Up In It, 1990) I haven't listened to this band in such a long time that I forgot they existed.

Sebadoh - 'Scars, Four Eyes' (III, 1991)

The Breeders - 'Glorious' (Pod, 1990)

Me too! It was a sad day when those went away. But I guess the environment is important too.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
