Prong
What? No Prong thread? Mainman Tommy Victor is one of the masters of crunchy Hardcore influenced Metal riffs and their sound that has straddled these genres. He has been highly influential in many areas including, Crossover, Industrial, Hardcore, Thrash, Punk and even without knowing- Nu Metal. The closest that America has got to the Killing Joke sound without becoming a derivative and still maintaining their own particular sound. Efficient, heavy and precise, Prong's music is sadly overlooked due to their reticence to align themselves with any particular genre. Ladies and Gentleman...Prong: From the 2007 release Power Of The Damager comes this track: That double bassline absolutely ruins speakers :D |
I've only ever heard Prove You Wrong and it's a fine album which has been getting a lot of plays from me lately. I just can't get enough of that crunchy primal riffery :p:

i remember seeing that Tommy Victor guy in a bunch of guitar magazines back in the day and commenting about how one of their albums could be played in its entirety using only 2 fingers. i always liked using more than 2 fingers so i never bothered then forgot, pretty weak reasoning but it's what it was.
checking out the tracks now they sound like the best parts of Helmet and White Zombie. |
This thread can't die!
If there is one album I should listen to of theirs, which should it be. I have been meaning to get into Prong, but I don't know where to start. |
Pretty good band. I like their more thrashy sound than anything else.
|
I have only listened to "Primitive Origins", but thought it was pretty bad. I listened to a few of their stuff in the 90's, but never got the appeal all that much. I could listen to them a few times, but not often.

I'm a Prong fan too. Love industrial, pitchshifter, godflesh, ministry, etc.
