Drug bands - 2
Suckass non-drug bands - so lame they should start playing polka
You think Aerosmith is one of the greatest rock bands in history? Not to be rude, but... Why? Regardless of if you're judging from skill, influence, image, or even just popularity, they weren't "one of the greatest" rock bands of the 70's, let alone all of history.

And as an aside, John Lennon wrote some of his best work after recognizing how much of his life had been destroyed by his behavior, and attempting to clean up his act. The trend isn't so much that "drugs = good music", rather they destroy people's lives, which gives them a very dark and realistic point of view to write songs from. Saying that hard drugs are awesome based on that is like hearing a song written by a genocide survivor, and shouting "Wooo! Genocide's are awesome, they make for the best songs!"

And lastly, drugs were responsible for Atilla (Billy Joel's Psych/Metal band from his early years).

One of the greatest American rock bands in history? Without a doubt.

Obviously it is in doubt, else we'd not be discussing it. Got any other generic sentiments to share?

Aerosmith were probably the reason why most of the bands that you love, decided to pick up instruments and form a band in the first place.

Most of the bands I love are from the 1960's, so... Unless Aerosmith used the power of rock to travel back in time for an excellent adventure, I doubt it.

I'm referring to any bands of the hard rock and heavy metal genre from the mid 1970s to late 1980s period. And since this is about Ratt and glam metal related bands, most of these bands were inspired by Aerosmith.

If you don't like any of these bands, then I'll take back my original statement.

Hard Rock and Heavy Metal... Influenced by Aerosmith? You've got it backwards. I can understand if you like Aerosmith, but to try to claim that they were influential on every Hard Rock and Heavy Metal band is really reaching, and you know it. It's actually kind of insulting to all of the people who actually did progress the genres to that point, because it glosses right over them, as if "rock" didn't exist until Aerosmith started playing.

The fact is that Aerosmith did exactly what every other generic southern-rock band in the 70's did, sharing the same influences, and very few people cite them as a major influence. If Aerosmith hadn't existed, would the world of rock really have changed all that much? I challenge you to name one band that would have never been formed if they hadn't heard Aerosmith (and Aerosmith cover bands don't count, obviously).

#1 - Aerosmith is about as far removed from Southern Rock as any band I can think of. The fact that you keep referring to them that way really waters down your opinion of the band.

#2 - Tons of rockers from the mid to late 70s and after cite Aerosmith as influences.
