One of the greatest American rock bands in history? Without a doubt.

If you don't like any of these bands, then I'll take back my original statement.

I wish Bad Company would have a cage match with Aerosmith. Then we'd find out for sure who the best is, subjectivity be damned. Until then, please stop insulting all of the rock bands of the 70's by associating them with the wannabe southern-rockers that subjected the world to "Ragdoll" "Dude Looks Like a Lady", and "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". Aerosmith and Steven Tyler had a few good songs, maybe even a few good albums, but that does not make them them great, and certainly not one of "the greatest".

The fact is that Aerosmith did exactly what every other generic southern-rock band in the 70's did, sharing the same influences, and very few people cite them as a major influence. If Aerosmith hadn't existed, would the world of rock really have changed all that much? I challenge you to name one band that would have never been formed if they hadn't heard Aerosmith (and Aerosmith cover bands don't count, obviously). |

You've picked three examples from their post Permanent Vacation period.
When people refer to Aerosmith as one of the greatest rock bands in history they're referring to their 1970s output.
