have you all heard the very short lived Rozz Williams project Shadow Project?
|
^^About Shadow Project...I've heard of it, but haven't listened to it. I only really listened to Christian Death's first three albums. Later they became rather boring for my taste, so I lost interest, even for Rozz Williams other project. Maybe I should give it a try? These songs are not bad, especially the second one.
@GravitySlips - Yeah, Virgin Prunes are one of the more interesting goth bands. I also have A New Form of Beauty Parts 1-4 from 1981. It is more experimental and out there for this kind of music, and conceptual. It's great. For someone posting this much in this thread, I don't really like a majority of those generic goth rock bands and there were many of those in the 80s and 90s. But the first ones of that death rock/dark wave scene were great. @James - I love Red Lorry Yellow Lorry too. Glad to see them mentioned. Here are two interesting bands from the late 80s/90s that are not typical goth rock, but have that dark romantic sensibility and are often referenced as goth: Cranes are great. People call them shoegaze/dream pop, goth rock, although they started with a strong industrial influence. They have their goth moments especially on Wings of Joy (1991) where they remind me sometimes of Cure/Cocteau Twins. Miranda Sex Garden are hard to classify. They remind me of earlier Cranes sound with those martial beats, but also sometimes of Swans from the 90s. Really interesting band. I only have one album Fairytales of Slavery (1994). A member of Einstürzende Neubauten produced it. |
personally i honestly only like Only Theater of Pain and Iron Mask by Christian Death...although 'This Is Heresy' from Sex, Drug and Jesus Christ has one hell of a bass line
i would prefer Shadow Project to Christian Death if Only Theater Of Pain was not perfect.... Sex Gang Children was another great kind of dark punk death rock type stuff i love Miranda Sex Garden and was lucky enough to see them quite some time ago..... i have one Cranes album...Forever....and it's a bit different from that song....i need to check out that album also there is not enough love for Tones on Tail here....i always preferred them to Love and Rockets |
You can't forget Gothic pop-rock either! :wavey:

Some cracking tracks in this thread. I will have to go for a Sisters Of Mercy Track available on A 12" from '84 and the unofficial compilation 'Some boy's wonder by mistake':
Phenomenal track. As for the much maligned Goth Metal genre I go for these: and of course, one of the best Cure tracks regarding their later output: |
:D
I like it when people besides me acknowledge Type O Negative. |
This is my favourite week so far :D
|
This takes an age to kick in but Dark Sanctuary are spectacular and well worth your time:

that Sisters of Mercy track is amazing
have not heard that Cure track in years.....it was one of my favorite songs :) Rosetta Stone was good classic goth rock |
