The Killers
They don't really have an official thread so here it is... I've just rediscovered how good their first album was. Should I bother getting any of their other stuff after Hot Fuss? What does everyone here think of them?
Thread STARTED. |

Alot of people say their second album was better but i never got into it. I loved The Killers when they first came out. I was downloading everything i could find before their album came out then i went out and bought it. I wasnt impressed with them live and i havent felt the same way about them since.

Hot fuss is still one of my favorite albums of the decade and basically got me into synth-pop or whatchamightcallit. The rest is just crap...mostly. |
They're crap, I loved them once up on a time. Hot Fuss is alright I guess.
|
'Read My Mind' is one of the greatest singles of the decade.
|
Two great songs off of Hot Fuss that they didn't play on the radio:
|
And the last really good song they recorded, before Flowers discovered Springsteen:
|
Sam's Town has some great stuff on it, Bones and Read My Mind for example, but isn't nearly as good as Hot Fuss.

New single is out on Tuesday, it's called "Runaways":

I loved Sam's Town, still my favourite Killer's album. When we were young is a classic indie athem, Uncle Johnny is a great Oasis like rocker, The title track is a Great Bruce Springstein and read my mind is a great single. Hot Fuss is a great album after Sam's Town they've gone a bit downhill but still have a few great singles.
|
I think The Killers do better when they aren't ripping off Bruce Springsteen.
New song totally bites. It's the second coming of Brandon Flower's solo career. Although they sound like Duran Duran (most of the time), they act like Journey. And they might end going the way of Journey circa 1985 if they continue with this cruddy sound. |
It becomes such a pity because they had potential and I thought once Hot Fuss came out they could just ignite. But no. That just didn't happened. I haven't had a chance to hear their new song yet.
|
Um, I like Journey's Raised on Radio. I mildly like the first two albums by The Killers. Since then, very forgettable music.
|
Great band, great lyricist and melodists! Great shows! Terrible music videos (unfortunately) :(
The first album is a must have as well as Day & Age. Both are fantastic. Second album not so much but props to the boys for challenging themselves and risking it all. Maybe it didn't go well but they got 'Read My Mind' which is a must have! Best (underrated) tracks: 1. Everything Will Be Alright 2. The World We Live In 3. Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll (in case you've never heard it) |
Giving The Killers a listen again. It's been such a long time, and I figured i'd start with the album that I overplayed a lot; Hot Fuss
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...0/Hot-Fuss.jpg Say what you want about The Killers, but Hot Fuss had to be one of the best albums of my childhood. Especially with some familiar songs with Somebody Told Me and Mr. Brightside. I've heard a couple of good things about Day and Age and I didn't really have the best chance to give it a listen as I do now, so I may end up really liking it. |
Ohhhhhh The Killers! Pretty good, but a little too light for my liking. Mr. Brightside and When You Were Young are about the only songs of theirs I like, nevertheless, both are great songs.
|
I've heard When You Were Young and they seem pretty good. Just a little too light, as Bri said. For somebody who enjoys this kind of music, The Killers would be a great choice. I'm considering checking some more of their songs out.
|
I love the killers! Hot Fuss was one of my favorite albums as a child. And despite not liking their latest album at first, there are some decent tracks on it that've grown on me, especially Runaways and the title track..
Favorite Killers song would have to be Smile Like You Mean It. Also a fan of Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, Spaceman, On Top, and All These Things That I've Done. Pretty much every song on the first album is memorable. ^^ I could never get into the Sam's Town album that much though. Maybe I'll have to try it again sometime. |
I sort of feel like they are hit and miss nowadays. Some stuff gets me and other stuff just doesn't get through.

The new album is pretty good but lacks the hooks of something like Day and Age. I would put it as a "grower" because it takes a few listens to really get (at least it did for me). Either way, these guys don't have a bad album in them (yet). |
Not a fan of the Killers being branded as pop...
Hot Fuss is probobly one of my top 5 albums ever! And I agree about Battleborn having to grow on you. I particularly like "From here on out" and the title track. |

Where are my fellow Killers fans? Any victims out there?

Brits sort yourselves out. Why is this possible? |
A tune. Best track to play act the words in a club.
|
Idk how I feel about their new album yet. It need to replay it. Only gave it one spin so far.
|
So I'm loving Imploding the mirage so much that I went back through their discography to try and see if maybe I was missing something in the last decade or so. Turns out I wasn't. Didn't save a single track from the last 2 albums preceding this one.
Dunno what happened here, they went back to or quit drugs or what, because ITM seems to be on par with Hot fuss. Like some kind of weird best of collection, chock full of potential singles. They're finally back to being fun. Huraay! :) |
You didn't find one song?!?
Ignoring Hot Fuss, Sam's Town, and Imploding the mirage - just to highlight what you should try: Spaceman The Way It Was The Man Run for Cover Admittedly, the first two albums are the real meat of the discography, but they're a solid rock band that isn't nearly as generic as much of what dominates modern rock radio (Foo Fights, Kings of Leon, Mumford) and my god do they put on a ****ing live show. |

I'm no expert on The Killers but they're kinda boring. At least on record.

"Are we human, or are we dancer?". I thought that was actually a low point for them. But the music is solid yes.

The Killers always seems a bit pulled in two directions. They broke with Somebody Told Me but they always seemed to have one foot in the Springsteen grave (lyrics like, "I never really gave up on breaking out of this two-bit town") and the new wave aesthetic that was clearly all over the first album. I think Day & Age responds to the heavy-handed Springsteen influence on Sam's Town. It's admittedly overly electronic but I still like a few tracks. Did you like "Somebody told me?" |
Hot fuss is one of my favorite albums, period. Of course I like Somebody told me...;)
Low point in that even though I rarely pay attention to lyrics, I noticed how stupid and cringey and laughable it sounded. But yeah I agree, after Hot fuss they discovered Springsteen and started aping him to an embarrassing extent. They're still not entirely over it. Btw, I started listening to this and couldn't finish. Doesn't work at all. I feel. |
Do you think you just don't like Springsteen? The Boss is class-struggle music. It's not for everyone.
I don't know if I'd say they did it to an embarrassing extent (maybe if you don't like him, it could be) Sam's Town was a pretty solid record. And they've had a few hits off most albums. I don't think they're going to be the Rolling Stones, but they're an above average rock band. |
So which era of Springsteen does Pressure machine ape?
