5 albums for a rock newbie
Hey ive only just started to get in into rock music recently being a life long underground hip hop fan (say what you like i dont give a f*ck) and so far ive heard bands like Rage Against The Machine, System of a Down, Seether (Seron Gas) and Three Days Grace but i dont really know where else to look i order to broaden my horizons so to speak. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Rock is a very broad genre so it's hard to tell what you're looking for, but I would suggest starting with some more mainstream stuff such as Foo Fighters' Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace and Red Hot Chilli Peppers' By The Way. Going a bit more heavy System of a Down's album Mezmerize is good and for a bit of prog I'd go for some Rush but I'm not too familiar with their discography so I couldn't really suggest an individual album. Those bands should give you quite a wide variety.

Not necessarily, if I was thrown in with The Doors I wouldn't have liked rock music. I think you need to start with more cliché rock music. Guns N Roses and shit like that. That's what I did anyway. GNR, AC/DC.. and then just grew out of it and searched for something more interesting. To get into rock n roll, you need something more straight forward.

The Doors are awful and so are all of you. Give him accessible stuff that will show him genres, not Queens of the fucking Stone Age.
Tommy This will teach OP if he likes rock operas. In the Court of the Crimson King This will teach OP if he likes prog (just ignore the 9 minutes of wankery on "Moonchild").
