I think this forum is very relative, but I would make a list that shows progression in rock music for this one.

The Bealtes - Help!
The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat
The Clash - London Calling
Nirvana - Nevermind
Radiohead - Ok Computer

I've been collecting albums my entire life and I think if someone was just starting off these would be the best pics

Since when has soul/R&B been rock & roll? I know rock & roll can incorporate elements of soul and what not.. But read his post, I don't think he's looking for an old school classic soul album.

White Light/White Heat and OK Computer are not really for newbies and even London Calling is suspect but it does have a lot of accessible stuff.

Like I said this forum is extremely relative compared to others, because all of us consider ourselves to be music purist and most of opinions are based on personal preference. I do respect your opinion, but I do stand by my list.

Nothing wrong with the list all great albums, but would you actually play (Those I highlighted) to a friend to get him into rock music?

I have played those for friends and it has gotten them into rock music, but then again I read my friends and I can usually tell what bands they would like. I'll admit I wouldn't play those albums for everyone, but someone interested in expanding there rock library, absoluely.
