rock is... my god, you need to understand how varied rock is. It's like... God...

"Hey guys, I'm from Mars and I've never head music from Earth, where should I start?"

Anyways, looking at the bands you're into, you might like something of the heavier persuasion, with an alternative vibe. There a few bands that pop into my head.

Muse

Knights of Cydonia- off their album Black Holes and Revalations

Metallica

- One off of ...And Justice For All
- Ride the Lightning off of the album of that name

and Nirvana (especially considering they were one of the founders of Grunge- which I've seen Rage Against the Machine and Three Days Grace classified as).
- Smells Like Teen Spirit off of Nevermind. Fuck, you've heard this whether you know it or not.

- Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam from MTV Unplugged in New York

Quote:
I think you need to start with more cliché rock music. Guns N Rosesand **** like that.
Guns 'N Roses isn't **** to say the least.

- Estranged off of Use Your Illusion II

- Sweet Child 'O Mine off of Appetite For Destruction

Quote:
That's what I did anyway. GNR, AC/DC..
AC/DC is crap... some of the time. They do have some great songs, though. I have two albums, and I'm gonna post my favorite song from each one, contrary to the "signiture song with hidden gem" formula I've done for almost every other band I've listed here.

- Ride On from Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
- Shoot to Thrill from Back in Black

@the original post (not just half to the original post and half to the cunning stunt)

There are some albums that you're not gonna be able to avoid no matter WHAT type of rock you like. Atleast, for the music lover. Off of the top of my head

that's all for now, I've been working on this post for... a long time.

Some good varied choices there and very accessible with the exception of the Hendrix album, most peoples appreciation of Hendrix only really comes once they are really into rock music.

For something older look no further than Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith etc

Bizarre choices. He said they'd give a newbie an insight into genre, it'd put a rock newbie off Progressive rock and 'classic rock' right from the get go. The Bullet's choices are more accessible, except for Hendrix like you said.

1) AC/DC - Highway To Hell
2) Led Zeppelin - Ledzeppelin IV
3) Nirvana - Nevermind
4) Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
5) Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley

Would be my first 5 to go for.

EDIT: Instead of Kyuss, I'd go for The White Stripes - White Blood Cells.

And, Dave1991, it might help if you listed some of the "underground hip-hop" stuff you're into?

(Classic Era stuff)
Led Zeppelin- Any of the first 4 albums
Deep Purple- Machine Head
Black Sabbath- Master of Reality
Aerosmith- Toys in the Attic
Fleetwood Mac-Rumours

(Post 90`s)
Nirvana- Nevermind
Soundgarden- Badmotorfinger
QOSA- Rated R
Strokes- Is This It
White Stripes- White Blood Cells

All of these albums are highly accessible without being too basic either. All are brief highlights of the rock genre stretching from metal, hard rock, grunge, indie and melodic rock and all are considered amongst the finest works of the said bands.
