Rock vrs. Society

In which ways would you say that Rock Music has influenced in society throughout the years? Or, in what measure has the society been reflected in Rock Music?

rockyosocksoff 03-08-2005 03:46 AM

RedBassGirl 03-13-2005 08:17 PM

Its been just the same as any other genre... It reached a normal amount of people, helped people through times.. I dont think its influenced society really.. Ha what an incredibly pointless post, sorry, I thought I had something interesting to say..

Obviously not..

i really don't know what to say to that question but that it just depends on each person on what they think someone might think that rock has had an effect on society and some people might just not really think about it i just like to listen to the music because i can reflect on it on the things that i go through thats why i got into rock i can just be free with my emotions i hope this makes sense but its the best i can do

Sounds good to me , do you really need any better reason than that? I think not

rock has influenced society in that its a safe catharsis for releasing your feelings-good and bad. so, it helps society in that it must decrease the amount of crime seeing that people can vent their angers and frustrations through the music. then again, music can influence people to behave more antisocially..ah, so ive gone back on myself. hmm, this was meant to be deep and meaningful.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-15-2005 03:20 PM

Yeah, I think the majority of society blames rock music for anti-social behaviour. But then, they also blame rap music, so its not just rock.

There`s always a scapegoat , before rap & rock music it was film , before film it was books ect ect ect.

Never religion strangley enough , which has probably killed more than all of the things a few thousand times over.

I think that music has had a large impact on society because now u see people walking around with different styles of clothing...these clothes have been influenced by their style of music they prefer. I myself do not dress in a particular style although many would say im punk, i dont believe in this "labelling" scheme

Rock music has had a massive effect on society. Just look at the 60-70's to confirm this. Styles of clothing, Beliefs, cliques, etc. have been formed from rock influence. Rock has had a tremendous effect on the "counter culture". It's been used politically, religiously and emotionally to convey one's beliefs, which others relate to.
Just pick an era and look at the trends which were active in said era. Do you think goth's (example) would really have such similiar principles, dress, and way of life without music? They form their "style" around the goth look. Which is influenced by gothic type bands and lyrics.
Pick a trend, and most can easily be linked to a genre of music.
My thoughts only.
