Hulk Hogan Auditioned For Metallica

I had read this from somewhere else:

Quote:

Former professional wrestler and full-time overprotective dad Hulk Hogan auditioned to play bass for both Metallica and the Rolling Stones during the 1980s, according to his forthcoming autobiography My Life Outside the Ring.

Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Hogan said: “I was in England presenting an award with Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger’s ex, and she told me the [Rolling] Stones were looking for a bass player. I sent her a ton of merchandise that she asked for and said ‘Tell Mick I’m a great bass player.’ I never heard a word back."

He went on: “When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them either. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica.”

Hogan made a living as a journeyman bass player while in college, and continued to attempt to make it as a musician during his early wrestling days. His daughter, Brooke, is now a successful solo artist with two albums to her name.
What Do You Think Would Have Happened If Metallica Hired Him?

They would have squandered all their credibility long before becoming megastars.

Your thread title's a bit misleading though, according to that article he never actually auditioned.

they would have turned into the biggest joke ever. really though, Hogan was already the biggest thing in wrestling in the 80s - it could even be argued that Hogan was significantly bigger than Metallica was in the 80s as well. his career was taking off into superstardom when Metallica was only getting started.

I don't think it could be argued, I think it's pretty much a fact that he was bigger than Metallica in the 80s.

^ that's because we're old enough to remember Hulkamania and being told to take our vitamins every Saturday afternoon hahaha

There's no argument. Hulkamania was bigger than everything in the 80s and early 90s, trust me I was there.

I remember seeing a bio on Hulk and he was playing a guitar and he wasn't too terrible. Don't be quick to judge guys maybe he's a pretty good bass player. I wouldn't be surprised if he's better than Newsted anyway.

You were three years old when the 80s ended. Do you even remember anything from that decade?

TheCunningStunt 06-17-2010 05:01 AM

If Hulk Hogan got the job as the Metallica bassist they would've been considered more of a joke than Dragonforce are now.

I was there in the early 90s. When I was a kid I was indeed a hulkamaniac. And I watched Mr Nanny and Surburban Commando god knows how many times. :o:

Heh, probably. You'd hear Master of Puppets as Hulk's theme song. (If he wrestled)

mr dave 06-18-2010 12:12 AM

^ fair, but the early 90s Hogan pales in comparison to the mid 80s Hulkamania.

True but he was still pretty big in the early 90s. I think the only other wrestler who compared in popularity was Bret The Hitman.

I do know that he was huge in the 80s though, hell he had his own cartoon. HE HAD HIS OWN PASTA!!!

I know that Wrestlemania III once held the record for largest attendence for an indoor sporting event in North America, drawling over 90,000 people. Hulk vs Andre the Giant being the main event. I used to rent old WWF pay per view events on VHS and watch them all the time.

If he had become a musician with Metallica, then he never would have released his album with The Wrestling Boot Band.

The world would have missed out.

rammetal7 06-18-2010 01:06 AM

Wonders if the macho man ever auditioned for Megadeth...

Stinkfist 06-22-2010 03:24 AM

Sticky!

IWP 06-26-2010 09:43 AM

They would've done a thrash metal cover of Real American. =P

But yeah, Hogan was DEFINATLY bigger than Metallica in the 80s without a doubt. Hogan was an 80s icon while Metallica were just some thrash metal band that had to sell out to become big. SAY YOUR PRAYERS, TAKE YOUR VITAMINS, AND RIDE THE LIGHTNING, BROTHER!!!!

jspaceman009 06-27-2010 03:16 AM

The bass looks like a toothpick in that vid :) but I think Creeping Death would have been more challenging than Johnny B. Good.

thomasracer56 06-27-2010 01:55 PM

If Hogan gets into the band... he'll be a block away from our house during recording. Seriously, Metallica's recording studio is a block away from our house, I've heard some of their interesting music.

xraygord 06-29-2010 03:27 PM

Too funny, I somehow doubt, that Hulk Hogan was even considered to play bass for any band. haha
