Portishead is the only one of those I would consider trip-hop.

Yeah, I've heard Massive Attack. They're the most obvious ones, can't believe I forgot them. I listened to the album with some kind of bug on the front.. Just don't get it. Gorillaz are surely Trip-Hop aren't they? Alt.rock/Trip-hop

They maybe have some trip-hop inflected songs but I wouldn't call their overall style trip-hop.

I'm sorry to hear you don't "get" that Massive Attack album (Mezzanine). I think it's one the best albums of the 90s.

I enjoyed Gorillaz first album. Plastic Beach was shite though. Their first album didn't strike me as Trip-Hop as Plastic Beach.

And yeah, I was gonna look up the album name. But it's late and I knew you guys would get what I meant from my very vague description. I never saw the big deal with that album.. I always thought it was, dare I say.. bad.

This is the first time I have actually felt bad for someone who didn't like a certain album. Damn, you are missing out. I didn't think it was possible for anyone to not like Mezzanine...

I would actually say the first album has more of a trip-hop influence to it than Plastic Beach does. A song like "Gravity" would be an example.

Well, it was a grower for me. I liked it when it came out but wasn't head-over-heels about it, but slowly over time it's come to be one of my favorite albums of that decade. One of the great moody albums IMO.

Debut and Post have a lot of trip hop influence but she really branched beyond that with later records, though with Volta she's starting to go back into that direction.

Also Cunning I'd like to know what progressive rock you have heard.

King Crimson, Floyd, Genesis and countless generic Proggy Math rock I care to remember. I remember talking to you a while back about my lack of love for Progressive Rock.

I never found there to be much on either of those albums. I suppose maybe on a handful of songs there's a bit of an influence. They're pretty far from what I'd call trip-hop albums overall though.

I didn't say they WERE trip hop albums but there's certainly an influence there. I'm pretty sure Bjork was listening to stuff like Massive Attack when she made those records.
