And if its suited for no current genre, is he pushing the bounds of what a genre is? Are you suggesting Metallica is a Prog band? Is James achieving tracendance within some other genre that he’s moved out of?

And what makes him “cling to his metal vocals”? Is he barking, or singing, or is he doing both? Is he the Tuvan throat singer of popular American music? Has he somehow managed to capture the spirit of two different things simultaneously?
He doesn't have any range, that's the problem. He tries to have range, he tries to sing high, he tries to sing low, and he sounds ****ty doing them all.

How is he NOT clinging to his metal voice? What's not to get about that. He still sounds like his old self, but like he's trying to impersonate Billy Corgan's style. That's not what I call a vocal that sounds good in ANY genre.

Megadeth's take on progress:

Metallica's take on progress:

na na naaaa naaa naaaaaaa na na na na naaaa.... wtf was that. Was that James? Billy Corgan? Cliff Burton haunting the track and making the most feminine sound he could possibly make? Either way, it sounds like ****.

But with that said, the music isn't terrible in that song. It's not great either, but I'll give Metallica that, the music has always kind of been there more often than not.

Hahahaha, I had forgotten about that song. That voice always reminded me of Popeye.

I think the fact that he thought that was Hetfield discredits his whole argument.

FTD - do you even listen to this stuff? And to use Megadeth is ridiculous. RiP is closer to the S/T album than it is to Reload. Furhtermore, Reload is closer to Risk than it is to RiP.

Framing things in a certain way to prove your point is the same as lying. Choose a dumber audience or up your game. Megadeth made entrance music for professional wrestling.

To be honest, something about James Hetfield's singing voice sounds a bit out of whack to the point where he's not very pleasant to listen to in my ears. That and his singing voice is nothing notable, in my opinion.

I agree that metal is more often guilty of being redundant. I wouldn't say Mastodon are intolerable though.

Not exactly sure why but Metallica has never really been that great in my eyes. Ride the Lightning is their best album, but I still wouldn't call it great. Slayers got 3 albums better than anything Metallica has ever done so Ill vote for them easily.

Only 3? I'd assume you'd have said 9.

I'd agree with 3. One Slayer album in particular makes nearly every faves list that is unbefeckinglievably overrated IMO is Seasons in the Abyss. Aside from War Ensemble the songs are well below the quality of any song on Reign In Blood, and the recording quality is just abysmal to my ears. The album that is particularly UNDER rated IMO is their collection of hardcore/punk covers, Undisputed Attitude, an admittedly stupid name for a great collection of covers. The only REALLY bad song on UA is the one original boring boring song that concludes.
