That's fair enough.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I don't have the album, I just listened to a few songs on Youtube. Some have said it's great. I'll be fair and say that the guitarist is still nice to listen to. But everyone else just needs to stop playing/singing.

Having said that, I don't hear the country in this at all. I'll go give the Waylon jennings thing a shot and see, but country music is almost all forms seems to have some twang or at least sustained notes, and the songs tend to be a lot more folk-oriented in that they are more sing-songy. Even older stuff would have more harmonics than I'd hear here. I always got the bad impression that Metallica went to that soft-poppy alternative more so than any other genre. edit: I like it (Waylon) but I'm still not hearing it. |

I know a few people who honestly say "Whenever I listen to country music, theres a guy singer and theres a girl singer." They aren't being assanine, thats just what they think, and there was a time where I felt the same way. Most country male singers have a voice moving toward baritone. Trace Adkins, Toby Keith, Josh Turner. The one country guy most people know was Johnny Cash and he was deep too. It borders on the absurd sometimes, and Hetfield starts off that deep as well so I imagine that its where you're finding a connection. Beyond that though, I don't really hear the country connotation. Is there a reason you don't like the genre? Country that is? |
