It's kind of like a non thrashy Hetfield.

Big 3's tone towards you was being condescending as he often does to people on here. I really don't know why you apologized to him either! You were basically expressing a legitimate observation, an observation that I also agree with. If you think Hetfield sounds like a country singer, then say it and don't apologize for it.

I wasn't apologizing for my opinion. I stand by my opinion no matter what. I was apologizing to him for jumping on him right away with the assumption that I felt he was being condescending. Whether he was or not is none of my concern really, it's behind us.

That's fair enough.

Perhaps I should post a video to the song where I formed that opinion from:

It's so obvious that he's got that country singer thing going on.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I don't have the album, I just listened to a few songs on Youtube. Some have said it's great. I'll be fair and say that the guitarist is still nice to listen to. But everyone else just needs to stop playing/singing.

So I didn't buy this album, and its a tragedy because this is what happens when you move on musically, but get dragged back to where you were at 19 kicking and screaming because your fans are socially stunted and think you should dress like Dio until your 72 and be just as angry as you were at 19.

Having said that, I don't hear the country in this at all. I'll go give the Waylon jennings thing a shot and see, but country music is almost all forms seems to have some twang or at least sustained notes, and the songs tend to be a lot more folk-oriented in that they are more sing-songy.

Even older stuff would have more harmonics than I'd hear here. I always got the bad impression that Metallica went to that soft-poppy alternative more so than any other genre.

edit: I like it (Waylon) but I'm still not hearing it.

It could be due to the difference of opinion, because I read that you liked country , whereas I don't listen to country enough. That could mislead my ears to be hearing something that potentially isn't there, or vice versa. I imagine you know that there are probably different forms of country , whereas for me, I think there's a generic country voice that goes with the genre. That by itself could give me the impression that Hetfield sounds like a country singer.

Well the risk of being called an ******* by a few of the members around here, let me raise this question.

I know a few people who honestly say "Whenever I listen to country music, theres a guy singer and theres a girl singer." They aren't being assanine, thats just what they think, and there was a time where I felt the same way. Most country male singers have a voice moving toward baritone. Trace Adkins, Toby Keith, Josh Turner. The one country guy most people know was Johnny Cash and he was deep too.

It borders on the absurd sometimes, and Hetfield starts off that deep as well so I imagine that its where you're finding a connection. Beyond that though, I don't really hear the country connotation.

Is there a reason you don't like the genre? Country that is?
