You've set a standard their that's very high, because there are few bands that play at the caliber that Arch Enemy consistently performs at with ease. The reason why Arch Enemy is so sweet is exactly because of the growling vocals which is the least important element to their music. It's more of a texture allowing the drums and especially the guitars to step it up and fill the vacuum that's usually reserved for the singer. Consequently, the music is much more complex than standard heavy metal bands that are locked into vocal choruses and verses, while the musicians are pushed into the background, waiting for the singer to be done. A classic vocalist would end up simplifying the music. If you can't get used to the growling, then Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Merciful Fate are as close you're going to get to an Arch Enemy with a singer. Oh yeah, and Megadeth, but then again, Dave can't really "sing".

Yeah, I'm looking for a deep baritone and some soaring leads.

Nobody better than Jim Morrison but of course he`s not metal Try Danzig he has a baritone voice and sings metal infused with a blues influence. If you want soaring distintive vocals and metal try Nevermore and start with either "Politics of Ecstasy" or "Dreaming Neon black" two classic metal albums.

Have you heard Savior Machine? It might be Industrial Christian Metal, but its all old testament so how you tell the difference I have no friggen idea. But that guy sings like a god damn beast. Let me see if I can find something.

Symphony X - Divine Wings of Tragedy or Paradise Lost. Also Iced Earth frontman Matt Barlow is a baritone who can hit the high notes.
