R.I.P. Paul Gray

 you were one of the best, man.

Glad to see others out there who want to celebrate your life and legacy.

LoathsomePete 05-25-2010 12:09 PM

For those unaware, Paul Gray was the bassist for Slipknot. I'm just going to say this once, any trolling in this thread and your post will be deleted and you will be given an infraction.

I was never a big Slipknot fan, but still he died far too young.

R.I.P.

Sad times. :(

R.I.P. Slipknot's a good band, love em' or hate em' this is sad news.

DearJenny 05-25-2010 12:36 PM

R.I.P. Paul, it was way too soon for you to go.

Dio and Paul Gray...all I'm going to say is celeb deaths tend to come in trios...

Careful what you say. Hopefully it will end here.

He wouldn't be 40 yet. How did he die?

Edit: That was a bit blunt. What I mean is, does anyone know yet?

Insane Guest 05-25-2010 12:44 PM

Haven't said yet. From what I read Autopsy was today.

They do, Peter Steele of Type O Negative passed away in mid April.

From what I've heard, early reports are saying substance abuse, but isn't that always the first thought when it comes to celebrities?

right-track 05-25-2010 12:47 PM

I heard about this on the radio earlier today. By all accounts he was expecting to be a father this September.
I'm going to say this now...if he's O.D.'d, my sympathies are non.

Stone Birds 05-25-2010 01:33 PM

oddly enough i saw rollerball last night (there's a slipknot appearance in it)
well even though i usually hate their music this is a sad story

DearJenny 05-25-2010 01:58 PM

I just looked all over scanning articles, and it looks like the autopsy and toxicity tests were planned for today so maybe we'll know cause tomorrow.

James 05-25-2010 03:09 PM

Never got into Slipknot but nobody deserves to die that young so
RIP

MetalRam 05-25-2010 03:49 PM

So sad and as a massive slipknot fan im absolutly gutted that such a great bassist has died at such a young age. Consolodation to his family, friends, bandmates and his unborn kid who wont get to know his/her legendary dad such a shame
RIP Paul Gray

oh come on.

bungalow 05-25-2010 09:13 PM

we all deserve to die, comes with the territory

Antonio 05-25-2010 09:18 PM

it's not about deserving to die, everyone's gonna die at some point, but when someone goes at that age leaving an oncoming family behind, it's still something that's sad to see happen.

R.I.P., and best of luck to his family

I was reading about this at school today. Apparently he was found slumped against a wall in a hotel room with a syringe nearby and "all kinds of pills everywhere" according to the person that found him and the 911 call.

James 05-28-2010 04:13 PM

Well with a kid on the way that's pretty pathetic.

AleG 05-29-2010 01:39 PM

"...according to a 911 tape obtained by WOI-TV, bottles of pills and a syringe were found next to the body of Gray in his hotel room." - Wikipedia's 'Paul Gray (American musician)' article

"The Polk County medical examiner is currently awaiting the results of a toxicology test, which is expected to be available in late June, before confirming the cause of death." - Wikipedia's 'Slipknot (band)' article

No matter how commercial Slipknot are (the reason they are so often attacked by metalheads) we cannot deny that they are a talented band, and a talented musician was lost.

Seems to be a bad month for the metal industry.

R.I.P.

Deaths come in threes...we got Peter Steele, Dio, and now Paul Gray. Hopefully the musician deaths are done for now.

James 05-29-2010 03:03 PM

Also Mark Linkous, Alex Chilton and Jay Reatard

GrindCoreGal 06-03-2010 12:46 AM

Happens to the best

I love Slipknot. Huge fan. Been a fan since the beginning.
I'm not upset about the death. Yes, it is really unfortunate but life goes on.

I am eager to see who they are getting to replace him...
I haven't done much reading on it yet...

Noo! I love the Reatard. His solo albums were great. Blood Visions :thumb:

Doesn't match up to Sparklehorse, Big Star or The Boxtops.
