I'd say Sex Pistols. They had the guts to sing about anarchism and violence, and other punk bands started following that trend. Sid Vicious would go on stage drunk as a skunk, and died of a heroin overdose. I'd say that set the punk stereotype about drugs and violence. But of course, Ramones DID have a more raw attitude than their precursors, but not AS raw as Sex Pistols.

I know that it's in the mind of the listener, so with me, the ones for me are The Stooges. They smashed a lot of rules, they made Sex Pistols look like an art project (A mighty fine art project), they made people wonder what the hell they were listening to - some possibly thought they were listening to Hell itself. They were from the streets of the Detroit area/Southeastern Michigan, The Pistols were mainly from the mind of a very clever Situationist/Boutique owner who was lucky to get a great lead vocalist and writer. The Stooges were the start of what is Punk in my opinion.

From the album that sparked a LOT of Punk scenes. The few kids who were sick of the FM Rock that was around rallied around Raw Power. This was too extreme for the Galm kids, too wild for a lot of people.

More Stooges footage.

You have a great point there. I Wanna be Your Dog is so heavily distorted I barely manage to listen to it. The Stooges is among the rawest bands I have heard of from back then. But this is pretty raw too.

Nietzsche

But seriously, I feel that punk was created by multiple artists... I thought we had already established this a while back in this thread?

As Paul said, try and tell us something that nobody has discussed a million and one times already.

My biggest question and I know how heated these debates get but why? Who honestly gives a damn who invented it or started it. Music is music man enjoy it, listen to it, like what you like why does it really effect anything where it came from? Hell I don't know who invented my car, doesnt make it any less fun to drive.
