The Stones, absolutely. Putting their musical influence on universal bands aside, they are still ****ing FANTASTIC. Angie is possible one of the best loves songs all time, and all their albums have character. Along with the Beatles (and many more), they defined the music that we listen to today. Even though most of the pop music coming out today is utterly crap. Plus, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are absolutely awesome. Steve Tyler, meh.
Sorry to get all 'righteous' - I just love the Stones. |

The Stones are obviously a bigger and more significant band in the rock history, but I prefer classic-era Aerosmith by a fair margin. I would take albums Toys, Wings and Rocks over any album by The Stones.
Plus Pump is much better than anything Stones have done in the post-70's period. |

Stones had a bigger impact, influenced a generation of bands (including Aero).
But, by the same token, Aerosmith influence the next generation as well. Musically, neither band was cutting-edge or created anything new or 'never before heard' stuff. They took what ingredients there, and created their own flavors. Once dissected, everything they do can be traced back to something else. But that's been the case in every era, in every genre. Everything comes from somewhere, nothing is 100% original. It's the evolution of music. That being said, I'm going to go with Aerosmith, simply because they offer a wider variety of sounds & adapted to changing climate of music with the advent of MTV and whatnot. Don't get me wrong... I hate that dumbass Cryin', Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, Angel bullsh*t . It's top 40 crap specifically written for the MTV audience. But, they did what they had to do to remain relevant, so I begrudgingly respect that. Aerosmith has 2 groups of fans, the MTV generation, and the original Aero fans, like me, who cut their teeth on Get Your Wings, Rocks, Draw The Line & the like. |

I dug them both when I was a teenager, but now I don't really care for Aerosmith meanwhile the Rolling Stones are still tried & true classics in my mind. There are some Aerosmith songs I continue to enjoy though, and admittedly the Stones have some pretty meh periods, so they've both got their ups and downs. But at the end of the day the Stones take the cake.
