Cartoonish shock value. It's not that much above what GWAR does, really. Slayer may have been a tad more interesting musically back in their prime, but one has to find the extents of shock value in Slayer lyrics/imagery are very obviously done for a humorous reactionary value. Cannibal Corpse, even more so.
It's very obvious that neither write their music from the heart or any other emotional source. They write their music to shock, mortify, and offend people. Both Slayer, and Cannibal Corpse in themselves are satires.

Well then, if Cannibal Corpse are a bad joke, as some figments of metal, why isn't it a valid thing to parody?
I think the fact that certain figments of metal are self conscious, and aware enough to parody the concept is proof of a sophisticated mindset. Frankly, the reason why metal is not taken seriously has nothing to do with GWAR, but rather metalheads who take themselves too seriously.
