If we're talking about bass riffs
Not talking about the lyrics. Riff. Riff, as the title suggests. Lyrics do suck, most of metallica's do in my opinion. But thats a different subject.

Anyone ever heard the guitar riff in Soundgarden's "Hands All Over"? It's pretty awesome.

'Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing' and 'The Tom Robinson Band - 2-4-6-8 Motorway' are the 2 that instantly spring into my mind

The riff at 1:16 in Dillinger Escape Plan's 43% Burnt puts hair on my chest.

Yes. I would never have started playing music if it weren't for this song.

I thought of a couple more.

Bass
"Whipping Post" - The Allman Brothers Band
"Money" - Pink Floyd
"Low Rider" - War
"Hand of Doom" and "Electric Funeral" - Black Sabbath

Guitar
"Communication Breakdown" - Led Zeppelin
"Walk All Over You" - AC/DC
"3rd Stone From the Sun" and "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)" - Jimi Hendrix Experience
"South of Heaven", "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood" - Slayer
"Paranoid" and "Into the Void" - Black Sabbath

Maybe more later.

yes, but the next track on the album obliterates it.

then again every 3rd Soundgarden song could easily be a greatest riff ever.

i can also never get enough of the riffs to Kyuss' Thumb and Sabbath's Sweet Leaf.
