They're not modern because their 80's material did not change from their 70's material.

Hell, one of the big stories of the 80's was college rock (Sonic Youth, The Pixies, The Smiths, Dinosaur Jr., Meat Puppets, etc.) creating a big enough following to allow grunge to knock off "dinosaur" bands like Queen and Ozzy.

man modern music sucks so bad! Seriously I am a 23 year old white male, I'm a the target audience for rock bands! I'm white trash too so this is my cup of tea, basically modern music sucks so bad that at 23 I am reduced to listening to talk radio everyday, if i don't have a cd in I have to listen to talk radio, the industry is so wacked out that anyone with any real talent is looked over, the pink floyds and beatles of the world will never be seen again, they have been run over by the dollar, those bands were all about the music these new guys are just a marketing nightmare switching looks and styles of music to just to make a buck. In seattle I can tell you that the music scene is pretty much dead!! thats why its all about trailer park mafia and drunken stunts!

I agree with you here . The music scene seems a bit stale as far as something different
and original. It seems that the music industry is signing on anyone that will make them money$$$$$$$$$$. I love the raw creative spontenous talent that you rarely hear anymore.

Here's some great Modern bands... just in case you've been living under a rock

Interpol
Radiohead
System of a Down
Shadow's Fall
The Zutons

you can disagree with me, but all of these bands are modern, original, and talented.

must totally disagree with this.. think about it.. back when the beatles were popular, they were just popular. its only now that they are considered the huge amazing best band of all time. there are these huge bands today, followed by millions. you still have ozzy, you have aerosmith, you have U2 (btw i dont like their music, aerosmith and u2, im just using them as an example) Tragically Hip have been together for 30 years and were just indicted into the canadian music hall of fame. Tool, radiohead, before they broke up you had the smashing pumpkins. all the bands like that are still around, and you wont see them become "beatle" popular until 20 or 30 years from now. right now they are just like the beatles were in their time, makin music, selling records, doing shows, getting the girls.. etc
do you understand what im saying?

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

Well why not get off your backsides & look for something. You want original music , go look for it.Thats why there are no 'Pink Floyds or Beatles' *cough* around now. Because people just sit at home whining nothing they like is ever around. If you are not prepared to be adventurous then don`t bitch that everything is bland & safe.

I live on a small island with ONE record store that only sells chart & new releases , we get next to zero in the way of live gigs. If I want to go to see a band I have to pay around £300 to get to London , yet despite this I manage to find plenty of new exciting talent.

You are on the internet , you have absolutly NO excuse for not being able to find new things.

^ Exactly, If your relying on the mainstream media to tell you what's worthwhile to listen to, then you don't deserve to listen to good music. Half the fun of being a music lover is the lengths you'll go to to find something original and integrous. The corprorate music industry is concerned with target markets and figuring out who is going to sell the most amount of records to the most diverse array of people. Punk bands are making pop tunes these days because the industry knows that they can sell a fickle teenager a punk image more effectively than they can sell them punk music, and pop music sells itself to those who are willing to allow their own tastes in music to be decided by what's in maximum rotation on the radio or MTV. Your'e not going to find much worthwhile music unless you turn over some rocks to look for it.

i agree with hatemonger here, most people who are complaining about the state of music rely on the radio or TV as their source, when really these two media only expose the tip of the musical ice berg. magazines are my primary source, you cant lose with the internet of course or word of mouth, but most of my freinds have no problem with music today and they are quite happy with what they hear on the radio, TV or from other people, of course there is nothing with that, but what is wrong is when you start complaining about this without doing anything about it.
