Maybe it's because I listened to Blue first, but I can't understand why so many people think it doesn't live up to Red.

I think that's the problem. If Blue was my first listen to Baroness, I would have loved it, and then Red would have just shot me the rest of the way to the moon. But as it is, the first time I listened to Blue, I had spent at least a year being gaga over Red, so Blue just felt like a disappointment. I like it a lot more these days, but it still feels like a missed opportunity to me.

RIP Baroness. Then again, I don't even like their Blue album much so never mind me.

Yeah, that song didn't get me too fussed. I really hope the double album thing doesn't turn out to be a snoozefest.

New song- March to the Sea

Pitchfork's description is spot on. They've gone full-mainstream-rock. Unless this double album ends up being half-metal half-rock, it's going to create a deep divide in their fan base.

I trust them though. That song was much better Take My Bones Away, and I think they could make some great rock.

Pitchfork is a hipster site, of course they're going to note "mainstreamness". Mainstream isn't bad if it's pulled off correctly, a la bands like Tool. I think everyone compares them to Mastodon, and it's now more appropriate because The Hunter wasn't very proggy at all, and more poppy. This album seems to be like that, but it sounds much better IMO. The Hunter was a pretty weak effort though.

Lol, Metallica. Doesn't surprise me that you couldn't get into Baroness then.

I really enjoyed this single, the guitar is just phenomenal. I'm fully prepared for this album.
