I guess you won't be pre-ordering the new double album then.

I won't either and I even like metal riffs that never go anywhere. I think the "Yellow and Green" name literally made my eyes roll subconsciously. I still like the Red one but the Blue one mostly bores me. I have a feeling the new one will be even worse but I'll probably give it a chance. If it's any good I may even take the time to steal an upload.

Suit yourselves. Baroness makes me very, very happy. Their dual guitar harmonies are so shamelessly catchy, and the drumming and vocals are just the perfect mix of sludge- and stoner-metal crunchiness. I love the bits of southern influence they occasionally throw in, and I don't find their acoustic drawbacks cheesy or unwanted. I find their sound refreshingly organic... it's so easy to put both their records on and let them wash over you.

Yeah, they do have moments of quality guitar harmonies. However, they don't seem to be incorporated into the structure, it's just thrown out there for half a minute or so, and then the song goes elsewhere and never comes back. That wouldn't be so terribly annoying if the songs were significantly shorter, but I'm not a fan of sitting through a four minute or longer song for a few moments of quality.

I wouldn't disagree that this the music washes over me, either; but I don't view that as a positive.

This is awesome news. Baroness are anything but boring, and I will be preordering this double LP. Artwork alone will make it worth owning.

Awesome. I worshipped their first album, but the second one was, pretty sweet, just not on the same level as the first. I imagine this album might just be a turning point in whether or not they are a one album wonder for me, or they truly recapture my attention.

Maybe it's because I listened to Blue first, but I can't understand why so many people think it doesn't live up to Red.

I think that's the problem. If Blue was my first listen to Baroness, I would have loved it, and then Red would have just shot me the rest of the way to the moon. But as it is, the first time I listened to Blue, I had spent at least a year being gaga over Red, so Blue just felt like a disappointment. I like it a lot more these days, but it still feels like a missed opportunity to me.

New single

It doesn't set my world on fire, but it's a good song. I much prefer the second half - once the instrumental section kicks in - to the very Torche-esque first half. I'm hoping there are some heavier tracks on the album, because it seems every band of this ilk is dropping some of their heaviness and embracing pop now. It's worked for Kylesa and Torche, but I feel like Mastodon lost something in their stylistic shift.

I'm not even being hyperbolic; for me, that entire song is just this side of unlistenable.
RIP Baroness. Then again, I don't even like their Blue album much so never mind me.
