Default favorite rock/metal album of all time

what's your favorite rock/metal album of all time? Take your time.

I have to say it's a pretty hard decision. For me, and I know I'll get flamed for this:

Guns 'N Roses' "Use Your Illusion II"

I mean, almost every song on this album is just like... Nothing sounds like it.

the vast majority of members on this site have gotten to the point of being able to respect other people's views, especially on subjective matters like 'favourites'.

however, since you're basically asking for it

nothing else sounds like 'Illusion 2' except for 'Illusion 1'. there are some great tracks on there like 'Civil War' and 'You Could be Mine', but there's also a pile of filler 'Shotgun Blues', 'Get in the Ring', 'My World', a 2nd version of 'Don't Cry'... yeah... that 2 minute rant about a label head's son is most definitely the cornerstone of a 'great' album...

admittedly i haven't listened to either album since sometime in the early 90s but i remember the first disc being a much stronger album than the 2nd.

as for myself i'll side with Soundgarden's 'Ultramega OK' as my personal favourite rock album by which all others are measured.

I could not possibly name a favorite rock album. So many are just way to difficult to compare and decide on which one I like more. I like different albums depending on my mind state and mood. At one moment Rubber Soul(Beatles) could be my favorite album, Blood on the Tracks(Dylon) the next, and later on in the same day the album I would possibly find most enjoyable could be Kveldssanger(Ulver).

Favorite of all time? That's asking way too much generality.

That's like asking a bacteria to find it's family. It just...can't...be done.

But I can try to name just a few...

Metallica - ...And Justice For All (First album I ever owned woot)

Protest the Hero - Fortress, and Kezia

The Haunted - One Kill Wonder, and The Dead Eye

Dream Theater - Train of Thought, and Falling into Infinity

Oh god...that got hard after Justice. Now there's like seven there...

Well if you can do it, I can do it.

In no order at all:

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Mr. Bungle - California
Opeth - Deliverance
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon and Animals
Primus - Tales From the Punchbowl
Slayer - Reign in Blood (perfect thrash album)
Alice in Chains - Dirt and Facelift

That's as far as I'm touching this subject.

Like what was said before, "Use Your Illusion 1" is the much stronger album.

Certainly agree about "Reign in Blood" despite the fact that I prefer both "South of Heaven" and "Seasons in the Abyss" In fact the nearest Slayer record to "Reign in Blood" is probably "God Hates Us All" Its an album that says F***K Off from the word go.

Best rock album, I could be here all night trying to work that one out

Best metal album, probably Sepultura`s "Roots" If I had to choose.
