hookers with machineguns 01-29-2005 05:59 PM

Slayer- Seasons in the Abyss or Reign in Blood
Motorhead- Ace of Spades
Skid Row- Slave to the Grind or the self titled
Helloween- Keeper of the 7 Keys (parts 1 & 2)
one for charity: Pantera- Vulgar Display of Power

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-29-2005 06:10 PM

I think Motorheads best album is Overkill.
I think more people say Ace Of Spades due to the fact that the title track is their most known song , but there are a hell of a lot of filler songs on it. Overkill is just quality the whole way through.

hookers with machineguns 01-29-2005 06:15 PM

I don't even own Overkill, but Ace of Spades had good songs on it besides the popular title track (Love you Like a Reptile, We Are the Road Crew, The Chase is Better Than The Catch, THe Hammer). Everything is power riffs and elements of thrash and punk. But I trust you. Like I said, I dont own Overkill, but I'll check it out when I can.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-29-2005 06:26 PM

As far as I know , over their career Overkill has always had the most songs off it played live.

I love that album , In fact i`ll make it no 1 on my top 5.

1. Motorhead - Overkill
2. Slayer - Reign In Blood
3. Black Sabbath - Volume 4
4. Judas Priest - Killing Machine
5. UFO - Force It

itchytasty 01-29-2005 07:48 PM

Edguy - Hellfire Club
Lost Horizon - A Flame to the Ground Beneath

I like your taste. I don't think anyone would care if its not purely metal. Everyone seems to be real chill about ppls tastes and opinions in this forum. that's why I like it. Devin Townsend has some really cool albums. Have you heard Infinity? Or Ocean Machine? Those are great too!

these are my five favorite. I'd put Some devin townsend in there but I already have strapp in my top 5

Strapping Young Lad - Alien
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis
Vader - The art of war
Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve
Lamb of god - As the Palaces Burn

Tracks 2-5 are pretty awesome. Especially Love Me Like a Reptile. Though Overkill is probably an overall better album, but does not have the singls that AOS does.

Embracethedeath 01-22-2009 04:01 PM

Pantera is getting way too much love in this thread.

I'm not going to even attempt to list the greatest metal cd's ever but I'll just do my personal top five:

At the Gates- The Red in the Sky is Ours
Mercyful Fate- Don't Break the Oath
Phlebotomized- Immense, Intense, Suspense
Nagelfar- Hunengrab im Herbst
Discordance Axis- The Inalienable Dreamless

lucifer_sam 01-22-2009 06:46 PM

I can't speak about any of those other four but The Inalienable Dreamless is absolutely sick. I'm not even a big fan of grindcore and it still keeps interest.

jackhammer 01-22-2009 07:20 PM

Obvious list:

Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law
Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Not so obvious:

Sacrilege - Turn Back Trilobite
Gojira- From Mars To Sirius
Voivod - Dimension:Hatross
Mordred - In This Life
Martin Grech - Open Heart Zoo

scottsy 01-22-2009 08:54 PM

I don't mind hearing Pantera get so much praise on this board - they are an awesome band, with an imposing, brutal wall of sound to their music, with even some elements of groove and blues...

I remember being awoken by them once when i was staying with some cousins and some friends - most definitely an effective alarm clock sound, waking up to the Great Southern Trendkill...

4ZZZ 01-22-2009 11:29 PM

I am not much of a Metal head myself but I have always wondered why Deep Purple In Rock is not given more praise. For me easily their best album and the only one that has stood the test of time.

Vivian Campbell 01-22-2009 11:41 PM

1. Metallica- Master of Puppets
2. Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast (only because Hallowed be thy name is the best song ever)
3. Megadeth- Rust in Peace
4. Dio- Last in Line (c'mon my name is Vivian Campbell)
5. Pantera- Cowboys From Hell

mr dave 01-23-2009 03:28 AM

i'm not a huge metal head but my personal top 5

1 - black sabbath - paranoid
2 - fear factory - demanufacture
3 - metallica - ride the lightning
4 - mastodon - blood mountain
5 - meshuggah - destroy erase improve

scottsy 01-23-2009 06:42 AM

You're like me Mr. Dave - not a huge metal head, yet there are some great albums in that there list of yours!

Demonoid 01-23-2009 08:20 AM

Here's my normal list -

1. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
2. Slayer - Reign In Blood

I don't know, they're a highly unoriginal band (considering Phil stole almost everything he knew from Exhorder, a much much better band) and to put Pantera in the five top greatest metal cd's of all time is just ludicrous. I'm probably really biased but whatever. Oh and btw, Pantera's first three albums that no one listens to are better than pretty much everything else they did.

lucifer_sam 01-24-2009 01:30 AM

I can't believe how many responses there are to this thread and still no mention of Angel Dust. It's practically the only funk metal album worth owning. :(

The only Pantera album worth listening to is Vulgar Displays of Power, all the others are total rubbish imho. But Vulgar Displays is absolutely immense.

almauro 01-24-2009 08:11 AM

IMO, anything with Dimebag on it most certainly ain't rubbish, including pre- CFH "Power Metal"'. That should be remastered, ASAP.

I LOVE Angel Dust.... that album is absolutely amongst my favorites... I can't remember a single time i have pulled it out for a listen and not thoroughly enjoyed it.... one truly epic piece of, as you call it, accurately, I might add funk metal...

almauro 01-28-2009 07:32 AM

Hmmm... Filosofem over Hyvis Lyset Tar Oss and Det Som Engang Var? It's obviously an awesome album but I really don't think it matches the two aforementioned albums. And I'd take Purgatory Afterglow over Crimson. This isn't meant to be derogatory; just sayin it to start some discussion. There needs to be more metal elitists here. This forum is severely lacking.

Zer0 02-06-2009 02:34 AM

Right so here's my top 5:

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
2. Slayer - Reign In Blood
3. Mastodon - Leviathan
4. Faith No More - Angel Dust
