I don't know how's the situation where you live guys, but here in Balkan more than 80% of population listens to an atrocious genre of music called "turbo-folk" and/or "cajke". So to claim that I listen to KoRn cause it's advertised is ridiculous. Get over yourselves guys, this isn't the late 90s/early 2000s anymore, nu/alternative rock/metal isn't even close to being mainstream... |

Who knows what we might have in the next few years or so? I hope its something good with a certain amount of articulation returning. I have always been a fan of progressive rock with strong elements of Jazz through the years, so something that included those particular elements and form of expression in their music would be nice. :) |

I've never met anyone who doesn't like Tool because of the fans. I have, however, met several people who've had their dislike of Tool drastically increase because of how obnoxious the fans can be.

By the way, I'd say nu metal and alternative rock is mainstream. If not, why would people care about Limp Bizkit reuniting, or Linkin Park releasing their 2012 album? And why would alternative rock bands Fun., Coldplay, Linkin Park, The Script and Imagine Dragons all be in Spotify's top 50 artists list? |
I wouldn't call Fun, Imagine Dragons or Coldplay "alternative rock", though. They're just straight up pop. They get played on pop radio stations, and not alternative rock stations. With that said, I agree that alt rock is a very popular/mainstream genre. It's basically the pop for people who like guitar more than electro.

I agree with you, but I didn't think my opinion counted too much.

Tool
I've been listening to this band for probably like 10 years now and they're my favorite rock oriented band. I wouldn't consider them metal, but probably progressive rock at best as really I've yet to find anyone similar to them.
If anyone has any bands similar to this one feel free to link me to them. The closest I've heard to them are bands like The Mars Volta or A Perfect Circle (although really, the only reason they're similar is because of the same singer ... their music sounds drastically different). Any help would be appreciated :D |
