That wasn't a personal attack on you, I'm just going by what other bands you talk about on the forum.
Other than Tool all I've seen you post about is Slipknot & Limp Bizkit, bands who not only fall under that catagory but who are practically the poster childern for it. So the fact that there is a huge crossover of popularity with that audience would suggest that there's no real intellectual criteria that allows one to enjoy Tool anymore than most bands. I know you're too blind to see this but I await you to start talking about bands who actually play complex music whether than be musically complex or literary complex rather than bands who are aimed at 13 year old social outcasts that you currently enjoy

Don't condemn him for liking only those bands, he also likes Korn too.

From a positive standpoint, Tool may be one of the more popular hard rock bands of the day. Their music contains elements of progressive rock, metal, and a brooding artistic feel that has given Tool a strong fan base. Boasting Danny Carey as one of the best drummers of the modern day, and the enigmatic Maynard James Keenan as a front man. I'm personally not surprised the band has such a following.
Negative: I just personally can't get into them because no matter how much exertion the band and its producers put into the sound of each song, the riffs themselves seem to be based on a big block of air. In other words, if you sit down to play a Tool song on your acoustic guitar, you'll more than likely find yourself (A) playing a mid-80s Megadeth-style bass line or (B) alternating between two or three tedious barre chords that are right next to each other. The band is too slow to kick ass and too melodically limited for my taste. In other words, Tools music is artistically not my cup of tea. But that in no way means that they are not a good band regardless of all the negative reviews. (Better than Korn anyway) Personal preference is all that matters. |

Overall I like the 90s/early 2000s culture the most so most music I listen comes from that era, that means mainly grunge, alternative and nu metal. That is not to say that I didn't TRY listening to many classic rock/metal bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc and I also tried countless other rock/metal bands, ranging from Aerosmith to Dream Theater to Nightwish. |

It's just sad though, that so many recent metal bands have been targeted at kids and we've ended up with angsty kids sucking up to ****ty metal bands. Tool though are going to be far harder to market though, than say either a band like Slipknot or Korn.
