Tool's definitely marketed (whether intentional or not) towards teens. Loud/heavy music with aggressive vocals, and abrasive/anti-establishment lyricism is basically the formula for getting thousands of rebellious teens to listen to you.

I do appreciate both cerebral and visceral parts of Tool but to be honest after that concert I just sit and listen to them now without really much thought. Oh and I see where Tool can attract young angsty teens with albums like Undertow, their EP Opiate, and songs like Ticks & Leaches, Eulogy, The Pot blah outrageous blah. But I don't agree that they're just marketed at teenage boys. They offer more than angst, heaviness and rebelliousness differently to others. Honestly I did not see more than a few teens at the concert and it wasn't age restricted. |
nope your dead on

I didn't say that they were only marketed towards kids, and I can guarantee that a bunch of kids couldn't go because of their parents. I'd also be willing to bet that most in attendance had been listening to Tool since they were about 15.
It goes beyond Opiate, Undertow, etc. They just have an aggressive sound, and the band is openly involved in anti-establishment causes. All of Aenima, all of Lateralus, all of 10,000 Days is very aggressive for the most part, and you can even put your own personal spin on what you think the lyrics are about. I don't think they're aimed specifically at teens, and that's why I still listen to them still. I can't say that about every band I used to listen to 8 years ago |

There are much more heavier/aggressive/rebellious bands out there so if those are the only things you expect from music I don't think you'll like Tool. Quote:
