I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.

Well, to be fair, I'd say what differentiates Tool & Radiohead from, say, Slayer (or Bieber, for that matter) is the former have tried to cultivate an aura of intellectualism in regards to their music. Some fans feel that by merely enjoying this music, it signifies they've caught onto something significant, leading to tremendous douchebagery. "Oh, you don't like Radiohead? It's ok, a lot of people don't like deep music."
Thing is:

ANYONE can listen to mainstream music like Bieber, Rihanna, Eminem, One Direction, Macklemore etc. I know quite a few people who are more intelligent than I am yet listen to that music.

But, NOT ANYONE can listen to Tool and enjoy them. You must have at least a certain level of intelligence and education to be genuinely interested in their lyrical themes and subjects they deal with.

I think that was his point and why he finds Tool fans to be Tools.

So you're saying an annoying teenage girl with a 2 digit IQ can be genuinely interested in Tool?

And Snooki reads Hegel in her free time, amiright?

I can't stand Tool.

Tell you what, go listen to Bitches Brew by Miles Davis, Tago Mago by Can, Flowers of Romance by Public Image Ltd & Red by King Crimson.

Then come back and say I need 'at least a certain level of intelligence and education to be genuinely interested in their lyrical themes and subjects they deal with.'

I don't think I said any of that.

I think you misunderstood my point. I'm just saying it takes some brain and a very specific taste to listen to a band like Tool.

I'm not saying that everybody who is smart has to listen to Tool or that everybody who isn't listening to Tool is stupid.

I like Tool, but this is wrong. They're pretty standard but they do some things that are a bit out there with the heavy amounts of bass guitar that they use, but I wouldn't say you need to be super smart to like them.

I didn't say you need to be super smart, don't put words in my mouth please. Nor did I say they make the most complex, experimental music ever(as Urban dude misinterpreted my comment).

You guys simply need to get real. Different artists attract different fanbases. How many heterosexual, mentally stable, grown up males listen to Justin Bieber or One Direction?
