If anyone else is also looking for a new Tool-esque band you might want to check out the supergroup Soen. It's made up of Martin Lopez, former drummer from Opeth, Steve DiGiorgio bass player for Death/ Testament/ Iced Earth/ many other metal bands, Joel Ekelof vocals from Willowtree, and some guy called Kim Platbarzdis. Decent pedigree behind it and the music itself is a pretty top notch imitation of Tool and Opeth.

I can't stand Soen... in fact I can't stand most bands that have vocalists that sound just like Keenan. I'd rather musicians find their own unique sound rather than be known for being 'imitations.'
If anyone here who is into Tool hasn't gotten into Karnivool already, they should |

Meh, besides Maynard related projects, if I want something close-ish to Tool, I try Rishloo. Tool is its own animal and nothing comes close, but this has the same tone about it at times. They're not going to be legendary, but they're fairly great. Try the track River of Glass.
